Comparison with SOD
« on March 02, 2021, 11:23:46 am by Branton Rover »
Sean stayed with us despite being wanted by Sheffield United & Burnley - this was at a time where we were riding high and at his peak with us - with hindsight he probably should’ve left us given that he’d probably taken us as far as he could with the budget he then had - from memory didn’t he go to be interviewed at Turf Moor and he gave them a dressing down about their training ground facilities - had he accepted either job at the time we’d have been upset but probably recognise he was moving on to progress his career - compare that with yesterday’s events which leaves everyone perplexed DRFC and Wednesday fans alike - I was and remain flabbergasted as I wrongly assumed DM had more oil in his lamp than this.

In the recent Copps podcast with SOD he did sound like the Burnley thing wasn't even true. He was being told he went for an interview while he was at Cantley Park.

Sean was a rarity in that he really cared about what he did, and the effect it had on not just the club but the town. I doubt there are any others like him in that respect, and we were spoilt with him, and we just can't hold everybody up to those ideals.

The modern game is more business like than ever before - seeking pay rises, promotions, using clubs as stepping stones. It is not a one way street though, clubs are as cut throat. 10 wins and your offered a new deal, 4 losses and your sacked...

Ive never been one for the rhetoric that comes from players and managers (kissing the badge effect) it seems to sucker most fans in each and every time. I would include Andy Butler in this too - he is a proud Doncaster lad, (and a decent one at that) but if he gets the chance to move to a big club, that he can better himself at, he will go...

The disappointing thing from our perspective with Darren , is that no fans of either club believe he has made the right decision. We move on though, and time to get behind Andy, hopefully he can achieve what Darren the bottler never.

The other thing with Darren, is for me it tarnishes his reputation with the Rovers after being a good servant to the club as a player.

It's just a very sad conclusion.

Isn't SOD involved with Portsmouth, who we beat tonight?

The 'Patreon' podcasts hosted by Copps. A fiver (Plus VAT) a month. They are very good. Between an hour and an hour and a half each. They're working through all the old faves. The latest one is Sully. Quite a humorous chap him. There's a link somewhere on the official website.

I agree pretty much with all of that jmt23.  Mind, given our recent history with manager departures I'd prefer to replace 'business like' with mercenary.
