Stability is one thing the Rovers do offer a manager - we aren’t a hire ‘em fire’em club.
I’d be seriously looking at Stendel - as opposed to Wellens (rose tinted specs)

We’re not, but for anyone looking for the security of a long-term deal they won’t get it with us.

What's insecure about waking up every day to having 365 days left on your contract, knowing even a relegation probably won't get you sacked without a fair chance at repairing the damage?

If a manager is looking to get a 3 year deal then they’re obviously not going to sign a one year rolling deal. Theres a post on this thread that mentions Stengel is after a long-term deal - unless we change tact a rolling contract isn’t going to satisfy someone like that.

The likelihood of being sacked is a different factor that I agree is appealing - we’re not a hire ‘em and fire ‘em club.

Just to give Rovers fans a bit of information on Daniel Stendel's background and the type of person he is .

His first HC job was at Hanover who at the time were in Bundesliga two .

Now Hanover are no small German club and his remit was to take Hanover back to the German top flight , this is a club who can attract over 50k fans .

He had them in the automatic promotion places up to the winter break and the arrival of a new CEO at Hanover .

When the season resumed after the winter break Hanover lost back to back games and the new CEO quick to make his mark no doubt fired him .

After a phone call to Wenger at Arsenal Stendel spent quite a few months behind the scenes on the Arsenal training ground looking to learn what he could about coaching and spent time at two or three other clubs too picking up what he could .

Daniel Stendel is a very humble guy and not afraid to reach out and learn what he can .

He wasn't too humble to take a league one job in south yorkshire either .

He was hired because the hierarchy at Oakwell wanted to change our playing style to a high press and aggressive brand of football .

On close inspection of the data it revealed that Stendel had the third highest rating in Europe playing high press football .

Only Pep at City and Klopp at Liverpool were higher who were obviously unavailable .

They'd be little point Rovers hiring Stendel to play a different brand of football .

The point I'm trying to make is that he's very good with this brand of football with a proven track record with it at league one level and isn't the kind of guy who goes in for up my own ass football snobbery .

If he was he'd never have come to Barnsley in league one from doing well at a big German club in Hanover .

He's East German , they are a different breed and far more rounded and humble , how many managers would drink with fans in Barnsley town centre every Saturday or midweek night .

The area he's from in East Germany is old mining territory .

The bloke is an absolute legend over here and that's despite leaving us struggling at the bottom of the championship .

McDermott has been out of the game for five years. Would be a left field appointment with that on his CV.

We won't go for him, they got thumped in their last game.

I don’t think the Board have it in them. Their preferred modus operandi is applications and interviews.

That's strange, I could have sworn their last game was this afternoon where they beat Oxford away 2-1.

If we're going for real old timers, try Steve Coppell. He's suposed to have a pad round here somewhere as well isn't he?

When is it not time for Kevin Keegan?

It’s not now though.

We've sacked three managers in 20 years. And we've stood by managers in historic runs of bad form which no manager at any other club would have survived.

Interestingly two of them - Penney and O'Driscoll - were two of the most successful managers in the club's history.
So...come to Doncaster.
If you are not very good, or good enough to be poached by higher status clubs, you'll get slagged off by the fans.
If you are good, you'll get the sack eventually.

They were both sacked because of Ryan's desire to move on to the next stage. Disastrously in one case.

Stendel would be my choice.....absolutely.

But the board HAVE to abandon their 'normal' formality of advertising & interviewing.

APPROACH HIM TODAY & offer him the role on whatever contract he wants (within reason). I don't think a 3 year contract as opposed to a one year rolling contract is asking too much given his record.

Presumably someone's checked with Stendel to see if he's any interest in managing in the UK again?

(the answer not being a sweeping generalisation about people going where the work is)

Or if he can after Brexit.

He was last heard of coaching at Nancy and has been linked to the St Pauli job. Also with the new rules around brexit he won't get a work permit. You have to be a manager working in one of Europe's top five leagues for the past two years, or in three of the last five years. Say what you want about Scotland but it isn't in the top five european leagues.

But if he was leaving here during will that allow him to be eligible?

It was something SM mentioned when Coleman 's name came up, was just after they were hit for 6.
