Hasselbank for me
He’s going places, doing well at Burton and yet again we will be his next step on the ladder

But the club will go for Wellens.      Safe

Why on earth would Hasselbaink leave a club where he has got an obvious connection for us, a team at the same level with similar resources?

Cos were massive?

From the list of rumoured names, Idd be happy with either of these
1. Stendel
2. Hasslebank
3. Wellens

I'm pretty sure that Liam Hoden has already ruled out Stendel and Hasslebank.

Liam Hoden isn't running the recruitment process.

Do you think he’s ruling them out based on a hunch?

I don't believe anyone involved in running a confidential process is giving him any information.

Liam Hoden 1000% knows who all of the managerial candidates are.

Safe?

If you knew Wellens then you'd realise he's anything but.

But just because he may not be considered the safe option, doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be the right one.

Personally I would view Wellens as a bold, ambitious and forward thinking choice.

This is totally correct. Wellens would excite the fan base.

Do the board have the bottle to hire him? Hope so.
[/quote

Won'tbe a case of having the bottle but assessing his strengths and weaknesses under pressure.

How has he adapted as a manager in dealing with players who don't always perform at the standards he expects. Is he a ruthless winner or is he a more rounded individual that can get the best out of players using different approaches?

We know he had the winning mentality as a player and if he can carry that forward and instill that into the players without having a ruck every week then he could be the man for us.

I think I may have started a non rumour - I mentioned I would like JFH in a thread a bit back! I have no idea if he would apply or any other type of insider knowledge - I just think he is doing a good job, with a relatively small club  and presumably budget.

Really? Of course they are. Hoden will be fed bits of information from those within the process, as will SM on here. To suppose otherwise would be daft.

The names I would have like have been disregarded and I really dont fancy Wellens getting it. I like the fact that I know he has high standards and wont stand for any less but, his failing at Salford is what really puts me off. His budget must have been massive for League 2 and Im sure with their owners they had a lot of pulling power for players and he assembled a squad who lost him his job. So hes a no from me.

Wellens didn't assemble anything at Salford. He was hired in November, signed the grand total of 3 loanees in January and got sacked for refusing to play direct football after only four months in the job.

It wasn't his squad and I don't see how he failed at anything, he didn't get the time to succeed or fail and they've missed out on the Play-Offs today, proving it was short-sighted to get rid of him.

No idea about whether the other candidates could do this better, but if there is one thing the club needs is a manager who can use the stick as much as the carrot with the players. Feels like we have had no grip for last two seasons and club and squad is drifting around. He could combust on his way through but Wellens has the personality to drive this right through the whole set up. Maybe others could do this also.

Part of me hopes JFH has been nowhere near this process purely because a good chunk of the forum wouldn't be able to spell his name!

I stand corrected. I thought he had a full pre season with them.

I wonder if the ups and downs, or the playoffs or not will possibly affect Mondays interviews.

Have we seen whether Graeme Jones has been ruled in or out yet? Whilst I’m probably in ‘Team Wellens’ from the main names supposedly in the running, I think Jones would be a really interesting choice if he’s applied.

I want a manager who has a plan B, a real plan B and the team to make it work when the fancy possession isn’t working,

Every club in football probably want's a manager who can make it work when the fancy possession isn't working- it's not that simple.

Then I don’t want a Manager.... I’ll vote for you!

Really not sure on wellens, i reckon he’s got it in him to do one at the first sight of a better job if we were doing well. Having said that though, I can’t see who else gets it out of names mentioned (if the bookies are accurate)

Hoden says there are three of the original shortlisted candidates that aren't listed in the betting so there is potential for a curveball appointment.

If a manager's ambitions are higher than his current club's, he will bugger off if given the chance to manage a club that more matches his ambitions. I'm not sure dedication to Rovers goes hand in hand with ambition.

It did them a whole lot of good didn't it? Missed out on the play-offs now. It would be good to see Ritchie Wellens come home!

We all seem to be looking at managers of other teams or out of work managers. How many Assistants might be looking for their 1st Managerial position?

Something else that those bringing up Wellens' alleged past fall-outs with board members, Butler or whoever are missing, is that if the club is willing to consider hiring him as manager now...then they are no doubt well past any issues that occurred some 4-5 years ago or more.

In the pursuit of success, people butt heads. Wellens was part of a good amount of success here and elsewhere in his career, and has as solid a CV as any 41-year-old manager with only a few years experience could have. He has achieved success and experienced failure as well as working at three clubs with very different set-ups and outlooks. It looks a good fit.

I think most of the wellens doubts stem from SM saying there’s no chance we’d appoint him.
There must be something quite significant for him to say that surely

Unless it’s Wellens having some personal issues making him unstable I’d be disappointed for us to rule him out so quickly.

Some talk he’s had a few bust ups but that’s the game just get over it and move on. Everyone gets fraught in football now and again it is what it is. Maybe there hasn’t been enough of that this season. But getting angry requires caring in the 1st place so obviously not going to be an issue with our lot

Everyone wanted Ian Snodin to succeed but he didn't have the temperament to do the job long term. He cared but JR had to relieve him of his duties.

I'd like to think Wellens has learned his trade and is more level headed as a manager.

Sure, we can all think he would be a good fit but we're not doing the interviews, looking him in the eye and assessing his credentials.

The trouble is, Wellens might be the favourite amongst fans for obvious reasons but if the board appoint someone else, they are likely to be criticised unfairly.

Boards earnt a lot of credit with recent appointment I’m sure most of us will give whoever it is the benefit of the doubt. Unless it’s Butler I wouldn’t be able to defend that!
