How full is your glass?
« on May 08, 2021, 09:44:42 pm by Pancho Regan »
There is no doubt we all feel a sense of disappointment in the way our season ended after being so well placed.

But for me it's time to take a deep breath and consider the positives:

1. We will start the new season with a new Manager and I have every faith in our Board to choose the right man (or woman....!)

2. Wednesday relegated - does it get any better? Darren Moore returns to the Keepmoat with his 'massive club' to discover that Club Doncaster is still alive and kicking despite him p*****g off at the first opportunity. I don't boo often but I'll be booing him given the chance. Just banter of course.

3. Rotherham relegated - yes, it does get better! Another big derby match to look forward to. Welcome back, we missed you, but not for long it seems! Also a chance for that Rovers exile in York to drool over the club he admires so much.

4. Hopefully an opportunity to give a warm welcome back to Alfie May, Matty Blair and Andy Williams. I'm chuffed to bits for them.

I have some big concerns for next season.

The new manager has a massive uphill challenge already. We have no strike force at all, relatively speaking. Coppinger leaves a big leadership and experience hole in midfield. And defensively we have been at best, average in the last half of the season. If butler ends up manager and not playing we have a serious defensive hole to fill also. Confidence probably could not be any lower either.
With the new manager only having closed season to put the first team back on track and a reliance on the loan market being an almost certainty, I’m not too optimistic.
It will require some very good fortune and very astute leadership and management to get a first team together ready for next season who can not only compete but perform well and get results. Looking at the other teams in lge one next year, I don’t see many that have suffered the bad run and disruption rovers has, perhaps with the exception of those relegated. Whilst it is nice for the coffers that rovrum and wendies are down, they are just another two teams competing in what is already a very competitive league.

One of three things will happen next season.
1. Rovers demise will continue under a new manager who fails to recognise and deal with the issues at the core of the current rot. Relegation beckons.
2. The ship will be steadied and it’s a mid table, up and down inconsistent season.
3. We strike it lucky and band together a group of players/ loanees that gel immediately and win consistently. Dare to dream again.

Thanks normal rules, you have answered my thread perfectly.

Reading your contribution, I can judge that your glass is definitely half-full.

Sometimes it's a state of mind. You feel upset, disappointed, even angry at what has happened in a season which promised so much.

But we have a new start, a new season to look forward to. I'm up for it.

I’m always up for it. Rovers are my team. It’s our lot. Win,lose draw. But I’m pretty realistic about what has to happen for things to become very very positive.

If we can be in the stadium watching, and the team give it their all every week  then everything else I can run with. This has been the worst season I've ever known in football for those reasons, so I can only be optimistic about the next stage of the club's history.

Half empty, I can't see the future being the Championship for Rovers, more a movement between L1 and L2 and doing nowt else.

Always full, or at least half full.
I started supporting Rovers in the late 80's so maybe my expectations are lower than most fans, but I wouldn't swap my colours for anyone's, particularly with the current structure of the club & the state of football in general.
Shoot me down but league one will do me, league two was poo last time we were there, championship was great & I'd be buzzing if we managed it again.
The fan base gets watered down the higher we go though imo, the comments around the ground always tickle me when we're punching, can tell all the armchair sky fans a mile off.

That is a glass half empty i think.

Let us see what the new manager can put together regarding the squad this summer.
We can only seriously make any assessment or predictions once we have got to the stage of all new playing squad recruitment has taken place.

Depends on the manager and what he has to work with.

Should be exciting like when Snods cobbled together a team in the conference, obviously we have glaring holes all over the pitch.....but it’s the filling that counts..

The teams coming down with resources and the teams coming up with momentum is our problem....we lie knowhere at all....our mid table squad is about to be thoroughly dismantled, so nobody can use that as a benchmark...

We could do a Northampton.....or a Blackpool depending on a huge dollop of luck, a well connected Manager and a pot of money that can make the difference between the two...

I’m half empty but hoping for a top up....

Glass half full. Our Board have shown us in the best that they know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to selecting Managers. All will be fine next season.

Point one:
This new manager better be able to play all 11 positions and fill the bench as well...

Some threads bounce back and bite lol

Spoken like a true supporter Pancho. Sombrero's off to you.
