Darren Moore proved to be a bit of a maverick

The frustrating thing with the signing of Ed Williams is he went through a trial period and was given a two year contract. Then DM never played him, when Darren left Andy never played him in fact he was hardly in the squad so AB didn't think he could do a job for him same has Darren. He’s been in training from day one under Richie and still has not impressed him you have to ask the question why. Three managers while in post have not seen enough from Williams to be selected for any starting eleven.

Makes you wonder what DM was thinking.

Whoever made the decision to sign him and let Watters leave can’t be much of a judge of a player. These things obviously aren’t black and white but clubs our size can’t afford to get too many wrong. I actually don’t think we do compared with some.

A real duff signing, this one. And if he is on decent money surely it’s a lesson learned for whoever signed the contract - he jumped up 3 leagues so no way should he have been on “a decent league one wage”.

TBF, anyone saying he was duff or rubbish didn't see how the 'quality' players in our squad finished the end of last season.... :headbang:

The lad hasn't been given much of an opportunity and no one could blame him for sitting out his 2 year contract and collecting his wage.  I doubt he was on as good a wage at Kidderminster....

A duff signing doesn't necessarily mean he was rubbish, just that it was a bad signing. Although the fact he couldn't get a game under 2 managers and despite some woeful performances from people in his position is pretty telling to me.

Unless he gets a competetive deal elsewhere you couldn't blame him for hanging around if he has a year left on his contract.
We might have to come up with some kind of mutual contract termination deal for him.

Absolutely. It’s a short career. If I was him, I wouldn’t walk away from the security of this deal, I’d be looking for some kind of pay off at least. No doubt he will be and who could blame him.

Shame it hasn’t worked out. The lad that interviewed Weaver (not sure we’re allowed to mention his name in the forum?) was very complimentary about him when we signed him and seemed to have followed his career. We’ve just not seen it, and I’m not sure if there’s anyone to necessarily blame for that. He’s never been trusted with a run in the team so it’s hard to develop any kind of form when you’re not playing. But we can only assume he’s not done enough in training. Hope it works out for him elsewhere and we can get the players we want in.

Think the same lad that had followed the career of Williams also ate bull’s testicles after losing a bet, so perhaps not an altogether credible figure.

If he stays, he will train on his own for a season, never play and that’s not going to do him any good in the long term.

Agree with this. It’s a short career and if you spend 2 years not playing the the next few are likely to not be do profitable. We might have to cover some of his wages to get him to leave but if he can find another club it’d be crazy to sit it out with us if he really wants to make it as a pro footballer

Signing a player and NEVER giving him a start in a League match and then effectively sacking him was Watters fate and the same applies to Williams. Reflecting on the regular performances of some of last year’s players, you wonder why they even got out for the second half. When Williams was on the pitch I don’t recall him doing the sort of unforgivable things that several of our more regular players did more or less every time they played. Surely any player signed should get an  actual start in a league match. I sympathise with Williams; the whole club have let him down.

Yeah, I must admit that had me worried from the start Jonathan....

We're not allowed to mention Weavers name or Rigos name?
