Looks better than it sounded on the audio!

Assuming that was a straight red, rather than two yellows, it's extremely harsh.

Incidentally, the fanzine's 250 word match reports are back for this season, so here's Lizzie's write-up of last night

It was definitely a red the ball had gone when put in the lunge tackle and for what. Sorry he has to learn having watched him from u 18, U23s he’s got that tackle in him. He’s got to cut it out you can’t do that in modern day football. Some do and get way with it but not many. If he wants to progress he has to change. With no U23 games now it’s all about the first team making mistakes like that is not good.

He was late yes, but his foot is flat to the ground, rather than studs up and reckless... mind the ref is looking on from the other side so might've seen it differently.

Suppose if it was a Walsall player on Greaves then I'd be demanding a red too.

It's a red because it was so late there had to be intent there. Yes he didn't have his studs up but he charged in full tilt and out of control. I don't think he meant to hurt the lad but he clearly wanted one of those classic crunching tackles where he takes the ball and leaves a mark on his man. The problem is he got nowhere near the ball, which leaves only the intent. Had it been the other way round I'd be livid with our thin squad.

It was reckless and unnecessary yeah I get lost in the moment but that shows lack of thought. Ritchie is quite right in his assessment

Absolutely idiotic challenge. He made his mind up from 15 yards away that he was going all in. It wasn't particularly malicious but it was totally out of control and it makes a red card an easy decision. He got away with 2-3  like that at the back end of last season so it's not an isolated event. I'm all for strong tackling, but that isn't strong tackling. It is rank bad decision making.

I've liked what I've seen of AJ last season, positive but obviously raw.
That tackle, if you can call it that, is just plain stupid though, he had plenty of time to decide he wasn't going to make it, easy red for the ref.

I like how AJ greaves gets stuck and we do need someone like that in our midfield but he is too inexperienced atm and that tackle showed, he obviously loves a tackle but he just needs to learn to be more cautious and that will only come with game time and coaching and hopefully even tho wellens seemed to be fuming with him in his interview yesterday he will help him become a better player.
