Isn't it part of our Donny Rovers makeup to be shit?

As of two years ago, half of all league clubs had never won a top flight league or main cup competition.
To name a few:
Fulham -
Crystal Palace
Watford -
Brighton
Bristol City
MK Dons
Oldham
Grimsby Town

People’s expectations are way to high , we will always be a small club in the lower reaches of the leagues

What's shit about Doncaster Rovers?  We're a well run and financially stable club, we have a great stadium, we have an excellent benefactor in TB and a board with it's heads screwed on. We also appear to have a forward looking manager.

Doncaster Town Centre?  Now that's a different question!

We're even shit when we're good!

Thing is, the quality of out shit has improved and folk forget that. Ambition used to be hoping other clubs chairman voted to re-elect us.

Ambition was finding Northwich and places like that without getting lost.

Ambition was getting across Belle Vue car park without breaking your ankle or getting your feet wet.

I'd still rather be shite than be a Miller or an Owl!

Exactly DBR. Some people seem to expect promotions or winning cup competitions every season. It’s never going to happen. The best thing about having periods where we are not firing on all cylinders is that it makes you appreciate the good times even more.

What I find shit about being a Rovers fan is the amount of people from here who’d much rather not be a Rovers fan.
I think we’re a well run club with realistic expectations of our capabilities, and I for one am reasonably content. :rtid:

Apart from the McCann playoff season, the last 8 years have been pretty ordinary. We were spoilt between 2002 and 2013 admittedly. Plenty of years of middle of the road stuff to come now to pay for that.

This. x100.

Think about the numbers. In the lower leagues, you have a 1 in 6 - 1 in 8 chance of being promoted or relegated in any given year. Those are the odds for the average club in a given league.

From 2003-2017, we should have expected to have been promoted and relegated about 2.5 times. Instead, we were promoted  4 times and relegated 3 times. We had a lot more "interesting" seasons than raw probability would suggest we should have done. Even since 2017, we have had 1 play-off appearance in 4 years, which is more than the 1 in 6 average rate.

Compare the last 18 years with the period from 1970 to 1997. In that 27 years flitting between Div 3 and 4, we should have expected about 3-4 promotions and 3-4 relegations. THAT is the sort of level of "interesting" season that clubs get on average. We had 2 promotions and 3 relegations. The period 2003-2017 has unquestionably spoiled us and we need a bit of perspective. Most football clubs, most years have dull seasons.

Agreed, although Donny town centre isn’t that bad when you compare it to Rotherham, Barnsley, Huddersfield etc
