The Football Transfer Window
« on January 01, 2022, 02:01:02 pm by rover-n-out »
Happy New Year to everybody here on the VSC.
I've started this thread as someone trying to understand the validity of the English transfer window.

Please bear in mind I am just a football fan, not a football analyst, and a Rovers fan in particular.

At this time of the season I often wonder at the fairness of the winter transfer window, with all it's deadlines, speculation, the transfer deadline day panic buying from lots of clubs etc. etc.

It seems an eternity now, but were things better when the old transfer system was in place, allowing clubs to buy or sell players throughout the season?

We've seen it happen season on season here at Rovers, where we've got to the last day of the window, short of players that we need, and gone out and seemingly panic bought before the deadline closes, just to get some bodies in.
I know it's the same for all clubs, but I feel this short winter window perpetuates a bidding war that we often cannot compete in, bourne out by the number of times we have been outbid by clubs that we thought we could compete with.
If the transfer system allowed clubs to do business throughout the season, surely that must be more advantageous and less panicky and stressful to clubs, having the time to do their business more thoroughly to hopefully get the right players in and offering more time for negotiations on fees and personal terms.

We've heard testimonies from various Premier and Football League managers voicing their opinions as to why they think it unfair, Wenger, Coppell, Pardew, Pellegrini have all voiced their opinion's over the years.

So, can I ask your opinions on this system, and whether you think it should be scrapped in favour of an all season transfer system, or is the current system fit for purpose?
Thank you all.

Don’t like the current system.

I would close off all transfers after 31st October until the season close.

Loans allowed only up to 28th Feb

All above for EFL clubs and National league.

Premier league they can do what the want as they always do anyway.
Not interested in those greedy b……s
