How disappointing for the team
« on April 30, 2022, 04:08:31 pm by Sammy Chung was King »
To put an unbeaten run together when it no longer matters. Last three unbeaten, one defeat in five, two wins, two draws and a loss, when the pressure had gone.
Encouraging looking at it on paper, but not when you consider we’ve not been able to do that all season when the pressure was on.

If we are serious about promotion, I personally think we need two goal scorers adding to what we have. The problem as we all know is the amount of players with contracts still running into next season.
Good enough work up to the edge of the area, but devoid of ideas how to hit the old onion bag!.
Six or seven proven players /up and coming players needed, a mix.

With hopefully some of those contracted leaving for pastures new.
Decent result today, I just think once the pressure comes back on these players they will revert to type. Let’s have a stronger spine to the side next season.
An experienced goalkeeper and centre back. A left back that can use the ball and defend. An attacking midfielder, a winger and two out and out strikers.

Other than that, we're well set for next season...

It’s obvious some of those contracted won’t be in the managers plans. Deals to be done in and out over the summer. I would like to think they have players in mind now.

For a while it looked like the points gap would be double figures. There has been some fight and pride shown. No point dwelling. Decision seems to have been made 're the manager. Need to get on with plans for next season. Us fans, We need to get ourselves in a more positive mood.

I hope we get those players Billy with quality.

7 players, BST, and I would think some of those 7 will come via the loan system and, hopefully, much better quality loans than this last season!

Definitely need a No.1 keeper who is commanding and can organise those in front of him. IF Anderson is ok, I can’t think of a better fit for cb. LB who knows, but CJ would be ok in L2.

The rest? Quality over quantity!

McSheffrey has spoken twice this week of needing to add "3 or 4 players" around what we already have contracted. A worrying target if so, this squad needs much more than that if Rovers are to get out of the hole they are in now.

He really is the right man for the board. Doesn’t ask for much, prepared to have nothing to bring players in. Ambition is lacking, we need a lot more than that. It depends on players leaving as is always the case at lower league clubs.

Good positive end to the season. Whether it's because the shackles are off we will never know.

Credit where its due for a good finish.

What’s the situation with joe Wright. Is he still recuperating with us. If he’s been out this long without a game could we snap him up on a deal. I can’t see there being that much interest in him without games

Maybe he’s moved on and I’ve missed it

Acceptance of mediocrity and failure if we continue then next season will not improve.

The goalkeeper’s ok. Certainly better than Etheridge, Lawlor and Marosi who were our keepers last time we were at this level.

A back 3 of Olowu, Anderson and John would be decent in League 1.

So as your shopping list gets smaller the size of the task seems less daunting. For your winger and midfielder we have Taylor and Close - like new signings seeing as they’ve been absent most of the season!

A couple of loans of Wilkes/Kane/Taylor Richards/ Matt Smith I/Ben Whiteman/Jacob Ramsey’s standard (I know we have PTSD from Cuker, but we have had plenty of good ones!) then we’re set fair for a cracking season.

If we set our sights on getting 7+ players in we're just going to struggle with the quality. Players we have aren't that bad they've been badly managed. We do need more up front which is why 2-3 quality players in that area will make a huge difference to us. Then a couple of loanees will fill us out.

Last season we had o buy in bulk and it didn't do us much good so this season lets go for quality to add to the bulk we've got. Yes try and get rid of poor players on contracts that's a bonus if they go and we can bring in someone new

Unless players leave then seven in wouldn’t happen. Those players have been good players in the past but have had a lot of injuries, no use to us if injured.

In a realistic scenario where Anderson, Bostock and John leave, and we don’t have any visibility on Fejiri for some considerable time, then we need to be signing an experienced central defensive leader, a full time left back, and an experienced striker as our three priorities. There is more we could do beyond this, but our squad will be huge already.

I think it’s fair to say, though not certain, that if some of those players had been ,fit we would have got the three points needed, to stay up.

If all our squad had all been fit for 80% of the season we would have finished top 12 SCK imo.

I totally disagree. We'd have still been carrying too much sh*te.

So Anderson, Bostock, Close, Taylor & Fej playing around 35/40 games each would not have made a significant difference.
Fej alone would have scored at least 10 goals which would have got us probably another 10/12 points min.

We will never know, so completely hypothetical anyway.

At the very least stick with Brian Clogh's Formula Top Goalkeeper, Centre half and Centre Forward is all we need!

Ain’t that the truth. I think Mitchell has done enough to start as number 1 next season. We have Taylor (if he can still play), Hiwula and Dodoo as contracted wide players. In Close, Rowe and Clayton we have a good midfield for League Two but maybe we need a fourth and younger pair of legs in there. We won’t be paying for two strikers. I can see us needing another contracted striker at an experienced level, then the third will be a loan. Nobody knows what Fejiri will be like come the Autumn when he is fit.

I’d focus on an experienced central defensive leader, a full time left back, and a senior central striker, as the priorities for contracted players. If we can move some players on I would add a central midfielder and right back.

We are crying out for a Rob Jones/Steve Foster type leader at the back, has Richard Woods signed his new contract at Rotherham yet ?

Jack Diamond.

22 years old, contracted to Sunderland but has been on loan at Harrogate Town this season.

He’s a winger but in 38 appearances for HT he’s scored 13 goals.

Worth a punt?

If Sunderland go up via the play offs he might be surplus to requirements,  if not maybe a loan deal worth pursuing?

Good player as is Armstrong who has scored goals this season for Town. Leads the line well.
Can’t see us getting Diamond.
