Top 3 holding midfielders in the championship
« on April 24, 2022, 09:11:27 pm by Dare to dream! »
1. Ben Sheaf
2. Flynn Downes
3. Ben Whiteman

Unreal that we had these two in league one at the same time. Both look prem bound.

Hopefully we have a nice sell on % for Whiteman.

Christ, when you think what both the ex Rovers players offer, then compare and contrast with the current incumbents,

Can't, tackle, can't shoot, can't win free kicks, cost us an arm and a leg.

I hope we have some interest still left in the Whiteman deal.

Media coverage at the time of the transfer to Preston said we did have a decent sell-on clause included.

Surely to christ we've got at least a 20% clause on him.

I reckon there's every chance he can go for 6/7 mill plus this summer.

I’ve said it for a while now. Whiteman has been the best midfielder in the Championship this season.

I think he's been better since Lowe took over, as have Preston as a whole, he's really come into his own as we thought he would.

If it were not for Marosi's slip and the two penalty misses, our fortunes could be very much different including the futures of McCann, Whiteman and Sheaf.

I also recall the grief that Sheaf got on here whilst with us.

We lost the semi final on penalties. The penalty shoot out was not conducted fairly and as a result we were cheated. Whether we would have won the play off final though is another question.

We could have likely kept all those above plus also had a shot at Wilks and maybe even Kane.

Whiteman was a shrewd signing. How he couldn’t get a game with Sheff utd I don’t know.
Some Preston fans didn’t rate him at one point.
We need to have a look in Sheff utd’s under 23’s and reserves, see what they’ve got.
I would expect at least twenty per cent sell on.

A sheff utd season ticket holder I know laughed when we got him  didn't rate him at all. But suppose they were on way to prem then and he's development since

What a shrewd move by DM to partner them both. And fair play to DF for spotting the talent within BW.

The problems started when we sold Ben and never replaced him.

your a bit slow on that - i have said that for years to repeat Wednesday produce nothing on their conveyor belt  whilst the talent Blades have produced is phenomenal

only yesterday i was looking at them and guess who they loaned to Stalybridge Celtic - who you say  ( and they used to say who the hell is Accrington Stanley ) Calvert Lewin who i don't think even played for the first team

as i have said many times Daniel Jebbison should have been loaned to us not Burton - we always get good loanees from Leeds ( and never anything from Wednesday) Rotherham now become viable for loanees even if they don't make it - but they have a lot of players out of contract soon   and of course we have The Dingles to loan us ...

Genuine question. Say have a sell on clause for 25% and Sheffield had a sell on clause with us  of 25% for when Ben moved on to Preston. If Ben goes for say 6 million do the Blades get 25% of our 1.5 million?

the blades would have got any fee when we sold him to preston

Who was our head of recruitment when DF was here.

Yes, but if we now get more is their sell on still valid?

The answer of course is it depends on what was in the two Whiteman transfer contracts. Would be interesting to know, I guess it must have happened to some other player some time, maybe it is standard in contracts to limit sell ons to the transfer they are written in and not extended to future further transfers.

DU, I think it depends on the structure of the deal. I seem to remember reading when there were rumours of Vardy going to Arsenal that Stocksbridge could be entitled to a windfall as their deal was a cut of any future profits made on Vardy (ie they were entitled to a percentage of any sell on that Fleetwood made). I’ve seen other cases though where it’s isolated to a percentage of the next sale.

No idea how Whiteman’s was structured though!

Amazing the player he's become. I honestly thought Houghton was better to begin with. Now Whiteman is way ahead.

How many times had your friend seen Whiteman play for them? He only played a dozen first team games for them, hard to judge a young player on that.

And only a handful of those games were starts; mostly sub appearances.
