He did well in a 0-0 draw at Brighton, but we then got murdered 0-4 at home to Darlington. The Darlo centre forward was Bobby Cummings, who scored a hat trick and gave Wylie a torrid time all night.lWasn't Nicholson killed on the way back from Brighton? No he was on his way back from Stoke I think. The story at the time was he went down to collect some rent that he was owed and Alick went with him. I don't know if the rent was for his old house. He played for Port Vale before us so Stoke is very close to Burslem. And a large amount of drink had been consumed I believe luckily Alick survived

It was Darren Moore who got sent off for the Dingles. Never quite warmed to him ever since. Turned out I was right to be suspicious.
Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I've got to say Dave Kitson. Sure he doesn't have the calibre or reputation of being a top player, but he always seemed to put in the performances of his career against us and steal the headlines. He was cast as the villain and I think he loved playing the part. I remember him coming off the bench for Reading (think it was his first game back at Reading after he left Stoke) and scored a superb injury time goal. Scored past us 3 times in the next 4 games with Portsmouth, and didn't he bag a goal against us when he played for Sheffield United?
