Except in revolutionary times progress does not arrive as a Great Leap Forwards. It never has. It never will. Progress is incremental, accumulative. If we get our nickers wound up about 'giving a voice', which is indeed patronising and condescending, we would have prevented that incremental step forwards. That of course, condemns the sufferers to yet more of exactly what they have today - in the hope that, one day, there will be a revolution that might take their wishes into account. Me? I prefer a slow, imperfect step forwards to sod all movement at all just because I don't like the tone or the sound or the behavioural implications of what is being done.

I agree that small steps forwards are better than no steps at all. The situation is appalling. It's racist. It's improved since days gone by but the change is so slow, too slow.

I accept that without something more "revolutionary" this pace of change will stay the same. The important questions and needed action have not nearly been faced. I read and watched the vids of some of the "Dialogues" in that link from SR - thanks for that.

The "treaty" or reforms are the issue. Can Australians act in that? I know of many very aware Australians who want to deal with the positively, but there seems to me to be far too many caught up in the very same kind of conservative fear that we see here in the UK, and all over the world. A fear that celebrates the insanity of "I, me, mine".

I hope this all brings change, real change, but I very much doubt iit will.
