Minutes silence/applause
« on September 14, 2022, 04:46:15 pm by DollyRover »
Anyone know why we had a minutes applause instead of silence at barrow? Did rovers stay on the half way line to hold a minutes silence separately to the minutes applause? Apologies if I missed something but I just didn't quite get what was going on before the game (or during it to be honest!!)

The instruction from the EFL was to hold a tribute to the Queen prior to kick-off. The advice was that it should be a minutes silence. However some clubs approached the EFL and asked if they could do a minutes applause instead, there was no objection from the EFL.

I don't think the applause was suitable on this occasion, and frankly, I was shocked.
Surely a minutes silence for The Queen is more appropriate.
I didn't join in the applause at Barrow; I stood in respectful silence.

Hopefully, we will have silence on Saturday.

Maybe Barrow saw it as a way of avoiding any chance of the type of abhorrent disrespectful behaviour shown by Liverpool

Why single Liverpool out? Wasn't it just 2 or 3 morons mouthing off?
I understand there was actually booing at Celtic and the Spurs game but yes let's single out Liverpool

Not British but there were some chants sang in the Irish league (ROI  not NI) about the Queen. Shamrock Rovers fans i think one of the main culprits singing 'Lizzies in a box'.

I'm not a monarchist at all and don't really have any emotion or attachment with regards to the Queens death but singing stuff like that is blatantly moronic.

Lizzie chose to be monarch, she could have chosen not to be, or could have personally taken control rather than be a relative robot. With that goes the whole historic aggression of the Brits. A good portion of that was dumped on Ireland, so I totally get Shamrock Rovers and Celtic. If they were bombing the funeral that would be another story, but they're just not buying into Queenaphilia, making a statement, for a good reason.

It’s going to fun when Rangers play Liverpool on 4th October with the death still fresh in minds

Raven no it wasn’t just 2 or 3 morons. They had to cut the minutes silence short.  Unless I’ve missed it I’ve not seen anything from the club condemning it.

Not seen it but I read that it was announced as a short silence before it started
And as to why you singled out Liverpool?

I haven’t singled out Liverpool. They are meant to be one of the big clubs showing the way for fans. Selling themselves as a peoples club of good character. The club in my view should condemn the behaviour of the morons.
We all know if it had been one of the hot topic subjects they had disrespected there would have been hell on and everyone and their brothers would be investigated. I may have missed something but apart from Liverpool and Celtic which other big clubs have behaved in such an abhorrent way
Nicola Sturgeon is normally full of gob but she’s not said anything about the Celtic fans.

strange how you say didn't single Liverpool out, I don't se any mention of any other team.
Any comment about Forest fans shouting out during the silence tonight?
C'mon Phil you've gone quiet on this one lots of problems at various grounds but is it still all about Liverpool?

Let's hope it's all respected today. You worry at Rovers more about one idiot likes to be the class clown rather than dislike of the Queen. Idiots littered everywhere in the South stand.

I thought it was impeccably observed. The only thing I could hear were birds singing!

Kinda restored my faith that people can be respectful when called upon.

Not sure the plea for fan to sing the national anthem worked but yes, an impeccably observed tribute by both sets of fans.

I noticed clapping around the 70th minute mark but couldn't work out why. The only reason i came up with was because of the Queen being a monarch for 70 years? Would this be right?

No, that was on 56 minutes. There was a smattering of applause on 70 minutes for the Queen and the Swindon fans sang GSTQ.

Nicola Sturgeon has given a fitting tribute to the Queen. She's not going to start pointing the finger at Celtic fans as it'd be political suicide and you can't start generalising saying all Celtic fans anyway as it was a minority. I think some people are using the Queen's death to divide us rather than bring us together, namely the right wing press.
I observed the minute's silence and stood through the anthem, I did not sing the anthem as I think it's a terrible anthem, and I've an awful singing voice, does that make me guilty of high treason?
