He really needs to work on his distribution. The general consensus (true as well) is that Williams is poor on the ball. His pass completion this season is 82%. Bobby’s is 68%. That’s in a league where you have all the time in the world on the ball.
That only tells so much, more often than not Williams takes the easy option

I'd say as a centre half you're meant to take the easy option most of the time.

Not often you can mess up a pass back to the keeper

To be fair Andy, I saw PL defenders make poor pass backs to the keeper on MOTD and both led to goals being conceded.

Gazlaz, I love stats, and it seems you are a stats man, but, I like all stats that show a true picture of a player, not just one or two that can suit a rhetoric at the time of a conversation.
That is why I would like you to give us the stats on interceptions made, headers won and lost, tackles won and lost, runs with the ball, blocks made etc. etc. and comparisons if you want with our other defenders in our team. A full picture of a players contribution to a team effort, the reason why bigger clubs are watching him intensely.
Arsenal for instance have changed their personnel in the back four to players who have not got the passing stats of former defenders, but are more robust and better tacklers, ie. better defenders, possession football at the back was getting them nowhere, as farting around with the ball twenty yards from goal was contributing to their league position also.

£2m for Bobby Faulkner? You must be joking.

We will get £50-£150k for him with a sizeable sell on fee. It’ll then then be when we maybe able to expect a good return on him.

No point modelling him in budgets yet.

Anyone who doesn’t believe Selby knows everything about Bobby, then think again. He’s mentored him for some time & understands  how he operates. I sit near Selby & we disagree on several things & have been mates for nigh on fifty years. On the subject of Bobby he’s aware of his potential ability & worth to the club Selby adores. Ps We disagreed totally on LM, but on this one he’s spot on.

I think the point is he has a lot of raw attributes to be very good. The question is how well he can develop on his weaknesses. The positive for me is that he seems to be aware of them and that's half the battle.  Two key things he needs to improve for me are his ability to win headers and his passing. Get them right and he'll be a very good player as he's good in the tackle. If he can get better on the ball he could end up as a defensive midfielder I think.  He's very good in the tackle and quite mobile.  I can see why he could move to that role.

He will be a centre back all day long for me. Has all the attributes.

Anderson will start the next game , and hope Faulkner partners him at the back ,I just don't see what the manager see in Williams he looks clumsy and scared when the ball is at his feet he never looks composed

Williams isn’t a good centre half by any stretch of the imagination. He’s a poor header of the ball, his positional sense isn’t good, he panics in situations where he needs to be calm. His only strength is his pace. See if Wellens wants him at Orient.

I’ve yet to see this pace Williams is ‘blessed’ with.

Can he give a striker a 2 yard start, catch & tackle him? Dunno, never seen it.

Can he pick the ball up & bring it out of defence at speed into the midfield before laying it off & initiating an attacking option? Dunno, never seen it.

Taylor has pace…….and?

Pace. An overrated ‘gift’ on a football pitch unless it ‘hurts’ the opposition & gives your team an edge in games. In my opinion.

Pace last night shown by the Rangers player Fashion jnr who whipped past Tsimikas and pulled a lovely ball back but no supporting player. Wasn't Tsimikas booked for trying to haul him back every time? That's the sort of pace with an end product, scared the living daylights out of the full back

That reminds me a bit of Jon Taylor, very quick but not much comes of it.

Very few players in the Premiership are not quick, most by ordinary standards are rapid.
