2023 - Positive changes for the club
« on December 31, 2022, 01:26:40 pm by Canadian Rover »
If you were HOF/Manager/Owner/CEO or Chairman (basically you had the power) to implement changes to DRFC for 2023 what would your priorities be?

I'd start with contracts for Knoyle, Oluwu, Bobby and Anderson (yep) 3 longer term contracts and one for another year - all make us a better team.

I'd develop a proper transition plan from youth to first team. Right now it seems our focus is transitioning from the first team and never coming back and playing in it when from youth set up.

I'd update weekly via social media and website; interviews with HOF, CEO, Chairman and Physio. Information to the fan base is key. This ranges from commercial partnerships, community involvement to injuries, details of our players out on loan and contracts. A weekly update from each of these would be great.

I wouldn’t renew the contracts of any of our defensive unit when expiring. As a unit it is and has been for ages absolutely dreadful. Best to start with a blank sheet of paper.

All very good questions and I'm sure there's plenty of us who can put our two penneth in but could take sometime and perhaps be heavy reading.

That said, there are lots of information that comes out of the club on a weekly and monthly basis which you can tell, not many really absorb. I'm guilty of not taking it all in depending what mood I'm in at the time, particularly commercial stuff, foundation stuff, community stuff.

Over the years there's be many attempts at different forms of communications, some more successful than others and of the time (I remember fondly the monthly newspaper which I used to get from my newsagent that covered past matches, up and coming matches, interviews with key personnel, players etc, community articles, injury updates, action photos, stats, the lot...like a monthly matchday programme if you like) but times have moved on and generally we know folk receive alot of instant information alot of which is junk.

The thing is, we have a shadow board who are people prepared to put in time and effort to address these sort of things and yes, maybe more regular updates from them too.

On football matters, I think there is scope for regular updates from HoF to encompass everything from youth development to everything that effects the first team although we have to trust them on contract negotiations which are never that simple as saying give X contract to Y player and for good reason, these things have to remain confidential until things are sorted one way or another

I would tell Schofield to play Knoyle RWB. Play Tommy Rowe up top with Miller.

If I were DOF/Manager/CEO or Chairman to implement positive changes to DRFC for 2023 what would my priority be?

Easy.

My own resignation.

(Perhaps I have more self-awareness than some of the current incumbents of those positions)

Ok I’ll bite, who you want without reeling off the usual suspects who won’t come for various reasons, Danny Wilson,Nigel Adkins,Nigel Clough,Mick McCarthey,Alan Curbishley. Also we are not Bradford City averaging more than the capacity of our ground. So think long and hard about your answer

This is unrelated to the beef above but it always amazes me that Curbishley (hasn’t managed a club in 15 years) and Wilson (likewise, 5 years) are thrown around when various jobs come up. If you are out of the managerial game for that long, you are not coming back at any professional level. 15 years!

My first priority would be an experienced individual as number 2 to Schofield, to provide a sounding board and also a different voice in the dressing room.

My second would be an experienced mentor for Copps, to widen his contact network and also provide advice etc.

I think it’s a real risk having both of the main football focussed roles with very inexperienced incumbents, and will likely exacerbate our current issues.

I don’t think TB would have left any of his corporate businesses with an inexperienced Leadership Team, with little apparent support.

And I don’t mean Lee f’in Carsley!!!

Happy New Year all.

while you might be right it would be adding 2 more big wages and probably taking it off the playing budget

bite all you like mush. Really don’t need to think long and hard about any answer either. All of the above would be very nice but there’s also many more out there that know what it takes to get out of league 2. I’m certain this chap won’t get us anywhere. Got Dickov written all over it.

Whoosh!
What do you think a manager/coach would say to someone telling him who and where to play players?
Time to hit the beer I think, lighten up
