Hurst and maxwell
« on January 29, 2023, 04:08:55 pm by Thorney »
Just trying to find a little positive from yesterday and thought both of these 2 actually had a good game especially Hurst who looked dangerous when running at the defenders and took his goal very well. Him and maxwell seem to be linking up well down the left and can only be good for us.

Now the negative part.
If Hurst does continue to improve and we finish outside of the play offs. Do we think there is a chance that a league1 club could potentially come in to take him away? Would the board consider offers or would they put up a not for sale sign on him. Personally i think the board would have the pen ready to sign on the dotted line if they feel they are making a bit of profit. And then try to kid us all that the funds would be invested back into the playing squad

Every player in the EFL is for sale if the price is right.

I hope to see Hurst continue in that central attacking role

Still enough time for someone to come in and buy Hurst. Wouldn't put it past this regime

Hurst is becoming a really good player for us and pops up with goals too.

I’ve got no idea whether Hurst will improve further or not, but it’s unlikely we will get much for him. He’s clearly unlikely to leave this window for money and by the summer he only has a year on his deal left, so not much leverage then even if he does have a standout next few months. More likely is he kicks on then leaves at end of his current deal for free.

It isn't really up to the club if a player does well, the player will get offered a pay rise by someone. That's football, at most levels, but at this level particularly even a grand a week could change their lives.

I’d offer hurst and maxwell extended contracts now. No point letting vultures circle with a year left. Get it sorted now before the agents get in their ear.

Show that good performances get rewards and poor ones get shown the door at the end of their contracts.

He needs to learn how to do the hard dirty work better , like tackling , being a nuisance and stronger on the defensive side of his game  , far to lightweight at the moment IMO.

I think we've had this scenario before, if we start wan or expect players like Hurst to learn to tackle, become stronger in the defensive side of their game do we risk loosing the play that he's actually in the side to do, remember a players like him could try his hardest and still be crap at tacking and look like an 8 stone weakling.
But when he drops a shoulder, turns a defender inside and out and score some spectacular goals like he has done that side soon gets booted right to the back of everyone's minds.

I'd say just encourage him to become even more unpredictable and unplayable when he's on it, that would pay us the biggest dividends.

Quick word on Maxwell, he continues to get better with more matches, and the team setup suits him well, could be a very shrewd signing for us.

I agree to an extent , but i don't think a team like ours can afford to carry luxury players like that, specially in L2 .
We need 11 grafters out there fighting and scrapping for every ball, and that is something we haven't got at the moment.IMO
Perhaps he will be better suited in a L1 top six side.

Yes but you also need players who can open up a defence, create chances and score goals. Hurst can do all those. Don’t consider him a luxury player at all.

I agree with you about having a team of grafters and fighting for every ball. He's a young kid playing mens football for the first time in  an extended manner, a good end to this year with a pre-season too boot for next and i'd say he will start to really shine, and his game management will improve massively.

Impressive young player, with Moly misfiring he's the only player we have who runs at defenders and commits them, something any defender hates, we've had a couple like this in the past but he looks like he could be one of the best with some sympathetic coaching and encouragement.
