Serious post, can somebody please educate me what he is trying to do?

I know whatever it is it’s not working, I know the players are shit. I know he is stubborn.

But does anyone know what he’s attempting?

I know, he is trying to ensure that no-one wants to watch another Rovers match while he is in charge!!

He can do whatever he wants as there doesn’t seem anyone capable of putting a stop to it!

I cannot remember him ever actually specifying exactly what his aim is, whether he has ever defined the style of play his methods will achieve. So the lack of a specified end product is hugely significant. Everyone who participates in a series of actions has to know what the aim is, but the fact is that with Schofield there is a process with no stated objective. Just about sums up his style and no wonder it looks so haphazardly awful.

To be fair, I remember the first home game he took charge (stevenage I believe), I remember although we lost we played some fantastic football, possession based, quick 1, 2 touch stuff. Sadly, it seems to have vanished, the performances now compared to that game is unbelievable.

The performances did seem to improve initially after Schofield came in. After Grimsby away I thought "we're cooking on gas now, here".

It's all gone downhill since then.

He came in, improved the defensive structure but seemingly at the cost of any attacking vigour at all. Initially we looked a threat on the counter attack but teams have wised up to that now. We offer nothing.

He said at the MTO event that he rang Sean O'Driscoll pleading to be signed for Rovers when he was playing but there was no interest. SO'D was brilliant at getting payers to take responsibility and play creatively through an intelligent and versatile playing style. No wonder he didn't rate Schofield!

I thought this formation, 5-2-3 or whatever it is, was supposed to be the blueprint for a new identity of passing football, blessed by Copps, but that the players will need time to adapt and those that can’t will be replaced over the next couple of windows.  If Maxwell was right the other day it now appears that the plan for next season is 442, presumably on the basis that we will have recruited better players, so the only reason for the current formation is because GS thinks we don’t have the players to cope with League 2 and this is the best way to secure points- how we have sunk to this level is enough to make you weep. Whichever is true, if you were a player in the current squad you would not be feeling very valued.

I can see what he's trying do but we'd need players who were far too good to play at this level to execute it. With our budget being as it is, it's not a good combination. I think he needs to be a bit more pragmatic, although conviction to your beliefs is admirable, his stubbornness could soon see him out of a job.
In his defence I don't think he's had a lot of input into some of the signings.

You don’t get promoted out of this league by playing complicated, stylish, technical, football.
It’s a physical fight. Grit, guile, tenacity, strength, fitness.
Consider the likes of Akinfenwe. A big brutish lump who knows where the back of the net is. 219 apps for Wycombe. 52 goals. He only played nine times for rovers, even then he got 4 goals. This is what is needed.
The way rovers play, with the current crop, the only thing they will win is the fair play award.

Akinfenwa. A whirlwind.

9 games for us, only started 4. Didn’t manage 90 minutes once but still scored 4 goals. Scored the winner away at Bristol Rovers and then got sent off 4 minutes later. His last appearance for us was away at Torquay United…who he then promptly signed for in his quest to get back closer to London. Torquay being best part of 50 miles further away from London than Doncaster is.

I really think we are going down the wrong road with schofield, his tactics, pie charts and percentages don’t seem to be working with these players, Danny, Copps and the board they are footballers not mathematicians, a no nonsense manager is what is needed asap.
