Yes they can, but do they want to?

They clearly don’t want to risk any further investment, I’ve mentioned on here before that ambition has to come from the very top.

For me they need to admit the time is up and try find suitable investors/buyers

Admitted it’s not the easiest thing to sell or the ideal time.

Yes they can, but do they want to?

I voted other for precisely this reason. They could take us to the edge of the Premier League, maybe even into it with £150-200m but they don't want to. Which is fine; they have made their money and can spend it as they like. But if they're not interested in gunning for success they shouldn't be running a football club.

I don’t think we can go forwards with them. We can stagnate and survive as some sort of museum piece which is how the owners are looking at us now.

Not a personal dig but they clearly aren’t going to invest in a way to achieve anything other than survival I.e paying a leccy bill rather than spending to  sign a proper manager.

That’s their right but if they don’t look to sell it’s just forced decline. Sounds like they would sell but I’d like us to actively pursue it rather than hope someone comes knocking

This board is a ground hoppers dream, before you know it, we will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Gainsborough Trinity.

Haha of course not. Look at the last 5 years. Years of hard work by great people totally undone. Fans staying away, we will see season ticket numbers at a later date but I know many many who haven't bothered due to the appallingly dire defensive football. Its supposed to be entertaining...NEWSFLASH...it isn't. Clueless inept manager and a playing staff that to be quite honest may well be one of the worst witnessed.

Add to that this 'bounce decisively back' rubbish pre season, to 'roughly a top 6 budget' mid season to now 'around mid-table' and it tells you all you need to know.

Poor Doncaster was the only town affected by COVID and the increase in electric bills as well I found out yesterday.

Mismanaged from top to bottom, incessant lies at meet the owners events and the '5 year plan' in the bin.

National league football by 2026 if things don't change and I can guarentee they won't. Same cycle as many other clubs.

I get you dont want to put anymore money in, thats fine, its yours, do as you please, but for the clubs sake sell up and move on, we are grateful but I like many are absolutely sick to the back teeth of listening to the rubbish and club Doncaster bluster. If its that good for the club why are we so poor compared to other clubs on less budget than us.

Oh, and if you do make a change please get people who know how to do the job in the positions you recruit for? You know, like a manager who has won more than 1 game of football in his career.

Rovers score high in Fan Engagement Index, according to the OS. Even the fact we have polls like this make it a bit of a joke.

I can't argue with any of this. But the challenge remains of finding the benefactor buyers.  Ideally it would be people with deep pockets. Perhaps a group of business men with connections with Doncaster, maybe those who have made fortunes out of the town and are ready to put it into the club for the benefit of the community that helped enrich them. Oh, err, wait a minute...

This is the problem isn’t it.
Yes we are crying out for owners who are genuine supporters of the football club. Someone with passion for the Club, person or people with a vision and person or people who have a plan and are able to see that plan through.

That means someone who is prepared to invest money he doesn’t need retuning, money to spend in the pursuit of taking the club on a journey to achieve its true potential.
I don’t believe it would take fortunes to get us to the Championship.
What it would take is a Manager who is capable of doing that on a top 7/9 League 1 budget.
Rotherham achieved it, Wycombe achieved it, Luton achieved it, Burton achieved it, Yeovil achieved it, Blackpool achieved it and there have been numerous others who have had budgets outside the top 6 in League 1 who have achieve it over the last 12 years.

Of course we need to get out of League 2 first. That should be achievable by any good manager with an CV of previous achievement and with the resources of a top 7 League 2 budget.

The question is of course is there anyone out there of that ilk.
Also we have to be very careful we don’t get someone who seems genuine but isn’t.

It’s a dilemma. One thing is for certain, we need a massive change of direction and we need it very quickly.
It’s much easier to fall 2 or 3 leagues than it is to rise them.

We have seen the fall of so, many clubs over the last 50 years.
Some of them have never looked remotely likely to get back to the EFL
Some others it has taken over 15 years to do it.

To think we would be talking like this in March 2023 after where we were in May 2019 and again in Early January 2021 yes only 26 months ago we were 2nd in League 1
To be where we are now just shows how desperately poor our Managerial and player recruitment has been even allowing for a reduced budget.

If we are stable financially then now is te time for some serious investment surely.
What is the benefit to the owners to not do that?
Am I missing something? What is their end game?

It would be great if JR would come back in and take the club off the current owners hands.
It wouldn't take a massive investment from him to get us back up to league 1 and he has the charisma & enthusiasm to attract bigger investors (subject to VSC scrutiny) to fund the next step to the Championship.
I would hope if he were to get involved that he would see the benefit of & keep the Club Doncaster model as that generates significant sums of money.
I can but dream!

JR has already shown his colours with his attempt to get a hedge fund involved with us.  Only the diligence of Watson and Bramhall prevented that.  Leave well alone where JR is concerned.
Besides he's getting on a bit now anyway, I doubt he could be bothered with the hassle anymore.

No way JR is coming back. Forget it.

TB would not sell the club to him and i very much doubt JR would even contemplate a return now.
He will also be be 73 yrs old now I think so no youngster.

We need some younger blood on the board. Some real enthusiasm, someone who is media savvy.
Someone who is going to put this club firmly back in the spotlight.
For the right reasons of course.

We must be wary though. There are plenty of Richardsons out there with unscrupulous motives.

I know that which is why I put subject to VSC scrutiny with regards to other investors. Short term I think it would work.
