To change the decline of the club it will need extra investment. We could sack DS but we have to pay him for 12 months plus we are still paying for GMC until October. We will have a third manager to pay for until October by sacking DS. Then it comes to his assistants and maybe Copps the playing budget will have to drastically increased to cover this and bring in better players and a better manager who will have to see what we are offering before taking the job. So if we continue with reducing the playing budget then we will be relegated next season. It’s down to TB to inject more funds or get in more investment not just club Doncaster.

Players more appropriate than the current bunch will not be any more expensive. We had a top half budget and have blown it.

5/6 of the right type of player to suit and compliment the squad and a realistic style of play will bring out the best in them.

If DS was dismissed and we have a good summer of recruitment a lot more tickets would be sold.

But yes, investment needed to ensure longer-term stability and undo years of damage just to put us on an even keel. What are the odds of him doing so?

I've got to the point now where DS is not getting the sack, because of the pure arrogance of the board.
I've stopped going even with a season ticket.
I really fear the worst here for the club.

Wow. What a difference 2 months can make. Thank you to those in charge for seeing sense.

I'll run something similar just before the season starts once the majority of ours and promotion competitors transfer business has been done.

It might be fun to do a poll now and then when the new squad is in place.

As of now 31/05/23 I will say 5th that’s in anticipation of further signings. When I have seen what they are then that may be revised.

With current squad as it is i would say 8th or 9th to be realistic.

There will be some considerable competition next season from
Wrexham, Notts C, Stockport, Bradford C, Salford, MK Dons, Gillingham, & Mansfield.
Also I think Accrington, Swindon & Tranmere could be a threat.
Until we see what all the squads look like in early August it is impossible to predict anything with much certainty and there is never any certainty is there.
I had Leyton Orient 8th & Stevenage 17th before the 1st match last season.
They were the top 2

Something will have gone very badly wrong if we are not safely top half at the end of next season.

You’re not kidding CBcb

If we don’t finish top 7 then GM will himself consider it abject failure.
He hasn’t come back to Rovers to achieve mediocrity, that is a given. If he gets in another 4 good players we will be competing for a top 3 place I am certain of that.
Not saying we will finish top 3 but we will be competing for those places. 100% we will.

I reckon 15th, but that is just going on current recruitment, that may well go upwards depending on further signings.

Really 15th
McCann would have got us top 7/8/9 last season even with that squad. The league wasn’t as strong last season as it will be next season.

The players were no where near as bad as the performances suggested they were. We just needed a Manager to set the team up correctly, have a proper tactical plan and be tactically savvy enough to make changes during a game to suit the way the game was panning out.

I think Mr Bramall read my reply and then saw the light, !!

Unbelievable change in attitude from April 1st to what we have now, and that's even before we have the completion of a rebuild for next season.

Just goes to show, money can't buy you everything but it damn well makes up for most of life's ills.

If we finish 15th with GM as manager, Richard Wood as CB and captain, and Terry's significant cash injection, then I can assure you we'll never get out of League 2 again.

Just 3 places better than last season? Seriously?

One good recruit (Wood), one from a relegated club, and a goalie that everybody was glad to see the back of when he left last time. I appreciate that GM is a good manager, but then you could say that about DM, DF and RW going on their performances last season, none of whom made a massive difference to the decline. The great mystery is the "significant funds" and what that brings, as I said depending on recruitment in the next few weeks, particularly at the end of June (I think that is when contracts end) I would happily go upwards with an estimate.

I don't think you're seeing the real context here. 15th would be 3 places above the worst Rovers team in 25 years, and in the bottom tier of the EFL as well.

That would make GM look an atrocious manager, even worse than DS because of the extra funds he's had.

It's not going to happen, no way.

Positive thinking
That’s what I like and that’s what GM will be aiming for.
Aim high then you have a chance of finishing high.

Just re visited this post, what a diff a month makes.
It’s going to be difficult to call next season until such time as we start to see the newish team play together.
It’s all very promising though. Getting rid of DS and re acquiring GM is a very big step to changing Rovers fortunes. The defensive stance GM is taking bodes well, build from the back. The next few signings will also be key. An engine or two in midfield and a couple who know where the goal is.
As it stands, before a ball is kicked I’m going to put my neck on the line and say top half bare minimum.

Stevenage signed a defender from a relegated club and he helped them get promoted. Some good frees available from the teams going down.

The guy we have as manager is a winner, he won’t accept second best. He wouldn’t have come here if he thought the club were not ambitious to get promoted from this league. If the board don’t match his ambition, he is strong enough to resign from his post. I am sure the board will give him the backing of significant funds that was promised. To do anything other than that would be pure stupidity.

I expect over the coming weeks and months, to see a strong, close knit squad being built, in the image of the current manager.
He has started by putting a rock at the heart of his defence in Wood. A good solid right back, in Sterry. A goalkeeper, Lawlor that has more strengths than weaknesses, someone he knows he can trust.

The exciting signings will take time, as this season we must be in the frame to compete for the very best that clubs at this level can get.
He will have a list of first choices, with back up options. We will get some of the first choices because of the managers reputation for strong attacking sides, that take a chance and go for it in games.

Also our club has had a good reputation in the past. This will be rebuilt from the bottom to top, by a manager that isn’t here to lose. Who will drag those at the club with him. Those that falter will be left at the wayside.

There is a plan there in the signings already made. He is building the spine of a new, mentally strong, squad and team, that has one aim, to be champions of league two.

He isn’t wrong Idler imo.
Don’t think Wrexham are going to be quite as strong as many people think.
Yes they will be up there but this is a mighty competitive league this coming season.
Take your pick from 9 teams for those top 3 places.
