Mattock has had injury problems. He was also on a decent whack at Rotherham.

Im sad to say it looks like MacDonald's serious health issues have done for his career.  He was way off it last couple of times he played.  A total liability.

Mattock has been a brilliant servant but became far too injury prone in his last couple of seasons.  His ankle became a real weak spot for him.  Good player IF you can get more than two consecutive games out of him.

Mikel Miller is the pick of the players we"ve released.  On his day unplayable but, and theres a theme here, he's a play three - miss three type player.  Forever tweaking his hamstring.

So that’s them out, then! We don’t need more injured or injury prone players, we already have plenty of those!

Jake Young is one we should have signed. Released by FGR, but now signing for Bradford City. Another one that got away.

If we were never interested in him, then he is not one that got away

We were talking about him in the local in Bradford this tea time.
City have also signed an out of contract keeper from Southampton who was valued at 250k.
City also seem to be keen on going down the road, due to budget constrictions of going with six loanees.

I would think that Hughes will be able to attract some very good loanees.

Bradford will be a threat this season. A manager like Hughes has the drawing power to get players in. He’s a good manager, gets his teams well organised. They will get a few players that many will be surprised at. A big club waiting to be woken up.

Some big teams in an around the top of league 2 next season, another reason why I am being conservative with my predictions

In the latest interview with GMC by the media team he talks about the squad, Leaders and adding Quality and leaders to improve the squad.

We don’t want average players. July will show which way we are heading

And I’m not talking here about another Marquis. I mean someone who could deliver 8-10 a season in League One but be a reliable and credible starter, able to weather a full season and be a focal point for us. Instead of a full order we got lots of half measures which were ultimately very expensive by comparison and delivered nothing other than disruption and dissatisfaction.

To be fair, Fejiri Okenabirhie was exactly this until he got crocked... 13 goals in 2020-21... and could've been even more so if we'd played to him as a focal point.

Think he's forgotten about a bit because his only full season with us came when no-one was watching in the stands

He did say that, Steve, but I wonder what GM’s version of ‘quality’ is. Our first signing on the books, but can he be described as quality?

Good luck to the lad and let’s hope he stays clear of injury.

Judging on some of his selections GM doesn't much of an eye for quality. It was slim pickings but he often managed to leave better players out the team.

Biggings probably isn't in the quality category however he played a lot of games for a L1 team (lower end) so for a L2 team it's not a bad signing. Also don't rule out players improving if GM can bring it out of the lads

Conor Washington has been released by Charlton, but I very much doubt he’ll drop down to League 2 unless he was offered a good longish contract

Signed for Rotherham United in Championship. Two year deal.

A very good signing for them.

Not if it's to replace Michael Smith it isn't in my opinion .

Good player in L1 but not going to keep you up in the championship imo.

It is always going to be hard for the smaller clubs, like Peterborough, Barnsley and Rotherham, to stay up when they get promoted to the Championship.

I don't think anybody, least of all Paul Warne, sees him as a replacement for Michael Smith.  Totally different type of player.  Washington is very much in the mold of Warne himself as a player:   busy, energetic, harassing defenders, etc.

Tom Eaves is the likely replacement for Smudge if, as seems probable, he signs for Middlesborough.  Talks are at an advanced stage with Eaves by all accounts.  We shall see what transpires.

All we need now is a couple of teams to suffer points deductions and it's all systems go!

Never easy at that level, but I'm not convinced the Championship is the strongest its ever been, what with financial issues at several clubs.  League 1 on the other hand .......

And, league 2 could be tasty also.  Someone posted on here recently about Bradford.  I agree totally.  Put money on them.  With a sneaky tenner on Stockport for a top 6 finish too.

Big summer ahead for Donny.  Got to get that recruitment right.  You've also got to get back to being hard to beat at your place.  Last few times we've been, its all seemed a bit too cosy. I used to hate visiting Belle Vue.  It seemed so hostile.  I'm not advocating violence, not at all, just the overall intensity and "feel" of a place.

Massive season ahead lads!

I see the Championship as being quite strong next season and Rotherham will struggle, still won’t be surprised if they manage to stay up however.
In our league can see Hughes leaving for a higher club if he gets Bradford off to a good start. Stockport may be strong but the real contenders if they manage to win the playoffs will be Wrexham. Gillingham will be a threat to and I’m quietly confident that we will be up there

It's not the same league it was a few seasons back in my opinion .

Take the club's on parachute payments out of the equation and there's a much of a muchness with the rest .

I personally feel that the coming season presents Rotherham with their best opportunity of staying up that they've had in recent years .

That said if they lose Smith it could be a real blow given they won't get a fee for him and a replacement capable of scoring 12 to 15 championship goals would be difficult but far from impossible either .

I wouldn't be surprised to see them come in for Cauley Woodrow who has family links to Rotherham .

Bradford City signed him this summer and have then loaned him out to Swindon Town for the season. I can see the logic of signing a young lad and loaning him out to a lower league side, but why they’ve loaned him out to a peer seems an odd choice.

Jake Young signed for Bradford last summer he played 7 times then went on loan in January to Barrow and played 17 times. He has now been loaned to Swindon.

Yes, right you are. I guess the same point arises - why would you loan to both Barrow and Swindon who are not only in your league but are broadly your competitors for the play offs?!

To hopefully take points off others before said players are not allowed to play against parent club?
