We have had a thin squad last few years but the low point was that post-summer window group that Wellens put together. Sweet Jesus.

Moly at RWB is an interesting one. He does work really hard but is an atrocious defender. Kind of feels a better option with him in a hybrid position with the emphasis on going forward. You know he will put a shift in and get back in shape not allowing space, even if his 1v1 defending isn’t up to much.

It seems him and Nixon are switching sides a bit (Bailey doing the same)I guess this s either to put Moly against their weakest defender or so he’s not going to be 1v1 with the oppositions best winger.

Of the post Moore managers Wellens frustrated me the most. He was the most experienced and played without a striker after his mini feud with Bogle. He allowed a personal vendetta cloud his professional judgment.

Butler, Mcsheffrey & Schofield was never going to work in a million years.

The way Molyneux is performing, his defensive role is a little less important because he puts the opposition on the back foot. Saturday was an extreme example because Sutton were poor, but Molyneux effectively played as an out and out right winger. With the current squad, a lot depends on his ability to be that dominant as an attacker on a regular basis, and neutralise much of the opposition threat down our right that way.

Must admit to being surprised at this:

13 league games this season - 14 points
13 league games last season - 21 points

McSheffrey would get sacked after the 14th league game, a 3-0 defeat away at Carlisle.

We are now on 16 league games and 20 points.

Still behind last season at same point, where we had 22 points after 16 league games.

Incidentally by this point Schofield was now in charge, and in his 2 games (games 15 and 16) he had drawn 1-1 away at Crewe and lost 1-0 at home to Stevenage.

We played well against Stevenage and it was almost a highlight of Schofield’s  tenure.
We lost the game 0-1 so that shows how bad we were from that point onwards.
Sorry the highlight was the 2 games over Christmas v Carlisle & Rochdale.

To compare last season with this is chalk and cheese.
I enjoy going to games again. We try to play attacking football. We play with 2 strikers. The players actually look as they know what their roles in the team are. There is a good team spirit.
The last 2 seasons we had none of the above.

We are still work in progress and we won’t see the best of this group until next season imo.

Second half of this season will be interesting. You would imagine injury list won’t be as bad plus also the January window to use potentially.

This.
I don't care what the respective league tables say, this season is miles better already. Like Camps says, it's actually enjoyable going to games this season.

This will be the first January transfer window in a while when we haven’t had to attempt a rescue job. We might get through January without giving a contract to a risky striker signing.

If we get most of the injured lads back fit, I don’t think we need to be signing anyone in January tbh. Always better to look at the squad in the summer window.

Unless we let one or two out aswell which is possible. Perhaps Tyler Roberts may go back for example.

This is a good point. If there is any chance of getting out Griffiths or Lavery I suspect that will happen given they are both listed and haven’t been able to play to change Grant’s mind. You could imagine Long and potentially yes Roberts also being shipped out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wood decides to hang up his boots in January too so we may want another CB.

I said when he signed he could be a Rob Jones or he could be a Richard Naylor.

Naylor signed in July 2011 and left in January 2012.

GM has now had a proper look at the whole squad, he knows what's needed to push on so I would expect a bit movement both ways.

No chance, he will play a key role in second half of season if we play with the 3 centre backs.

The likes of Long, Degruchy, Sotona could all go out on loan.

Roberts might go back.

Can’t see Grant wanting to stand still, he will have his eye on 2 or 3 players.

We’re right back in the mix now, I expect us to be top 8 by January.

Top 8 after we beat Bradford City on 23/12/23
We then have 2 extremely tough away games over Xmas at Notts C & Mansfield.
Anything we get from those 2 games are bonus points. So we might be only top 11/12 before we play MK Dons on new yrs day.
Think if the injury situation improves we could be very strong from January onwards.
I think top 7 is very realistic.

Top 4 as of now I think will be the top 4 at the finish. The next 3 places are up for grabs imo. No reason whatsoever why we can’t come with a strong run in the last 15/20 games and grab ourselves a place at Wembley in May.
At least this season we are going to have some entertainment whatever happens.
If we don’t go up then next season I think if GM is backed in the summer we will be a top 3 side.

Nixon permanent if a few managed to get moved on? Love his pace and tenacity.
