Accrington stanley/wrexham
« on November 18, 2023, 07:59:54 pm by Thorney »
Seen that Accrington Stanley put the cost of a matchday ticket for both sets of fans up £5 to £25 for this game.
Accrington stating that its to cover costs of extra policing and staffing.

How would we feel if rovers did this for the home game v Wrexham.

Wrexham responded by saying they will reduce their prices for the return fixture by £5.

I've read that it's automatically classed as an international fixture, so more police are needed? Right or wrong,?

I don't think I would be happy for rovers to bung prices up for that 1 fixture.

I’d be hugely disappointed but also extremely surprised. Can’t see it happening.

Very good of Wrexham to do that.
I just looked on the bbc website and the matchday attendance today is almost double what Accy usually get.
As an aside I also noticed a photograph of a penalty being scored by an Accy player.
The penalty spot is obviously situated in the centre of the goal but in the photo it appears that the shot is being taken from outside of the left post.
It just goes to show how an angle that a picture is taken from can be deceptive and not show the true situation.

Good to see Wrexham lose. If their glory hunting fans paid more to see that defeat, all the better.

A classic example of the fact that there is no truth in perspective. And this adage does not solely apply to photography.

But they also charged their own fans £5 more than another league game this season. Outrageous to do that for a single league game. Can imagine the uproar on social media if we did that.
Thank god we are a club that won't (I hope)

We've had ample opportunities to do it in the past, so no reason to believe the club would resort to this in the future.

I guess the nearest we got was the short term experiment into categorising matches, 1, 2, 3 etc. which was quickly dropped after feedback from fans.

Maybe their true fans are happy to pay the extra £5 to help ensure that their club survives financially. I imagine that the win makes it less painful than if they had payed up and seen them tonked at home.

A fan than that goes through thick and thin over a long period of time. I have known many seemingly ardent fans that dropped off along the way.

Idler, I've been a rovers fan since 1986. They are my only club. Went all over the country as a young lad/man.
Got married and kids came along and set up business so going to the football regularly took a back seat for a number of years. I still went when I could but was always, always glued to this forum for much needed news, updates and gossip.
My kids are growing up now so I have more free time so I go alot again with my lad and he's now got the Rovers bug.
Would I have been just a fair weather fan in those middle times, even though I was still obsessed by the rovers?

No Nudga you wouldn’t. I myself left Doncaster in 1978 having watched them all over the country in the 60s. I have had seasons when I couldn’t afford to go as often as I wanted. I now spend more on petrol than my season ticket costs. I was one of those that still supported Rovers at our lowest ebb and now pay for two Rovers lottery tickets and iFollow plus supported the club financially in my small way over the years. I’m lucky that I can afford it and it doesn’t make me better than others but I do stay and applaud the team after a good performance despite an hour’s drive home. I also don’t boo the team after a disappointing result or cause problems for fellow Rovers fans both of which have been noted this year.
Maybe I haven’t explained myself very well but at any club at any time there are proper fans and some that go through the motions or just moan about the club, management or board at any opportunity.

Well said idler. I moved away in 1987. Only been one club for me. That’s ours. Went everywhere home and away. Last few years couldn’t afford it due to low income plus extra costs in fuel. Have been able to go more this season. I stay till the end. Applaud the team. Never boo them. A few people want to be grateful for our owners

I guess there are many who have missed games over the years for various reasons and can still class themselves as true fans.
In my case I started watching Rovers at aged ten and immediately got the bug.
Up to being 17 I hardly missed a home game and went to shed loads of away ones.
I even went to some reserve games.
Then when I started playing every Saturday I was restricted to a few Tuesday matches only for lots of years.
In my late thirties I began watching Saturday games again but then I started my own business and that took priority in my life so only saw an occasional Saturday game for lots of years.
I very rarely went during the Richardson and Conference years.
I managed to get back to regular Saturday watching in about 2005.
In all that time away the first result I looked for was Rovers and they have always been my team.

Been a fan since the late 60s

Moved south in 1985 and held a season ticket periodically.

My son born in Enfield is a fan too

Once a rover
