It wasn’t good news. Says he has never seen anything like this. Miller, Lavery and potentially Westbrooke he thinks we might not see again this season. Taylor potentially back January / February and Maxwell still assessing but could need operation and out for another month. Miller the big one although I suspect we all knew that was likely him done for season given how quiet it had gone.

Miller another one that’s been out for months that all of a sudden needs an operation.

January priority is keeping Faal.

Then a decision on whether Marsh will come back for second half of season and if not, we need another attacking player as Miller now looks out for season.

After that something more controlled in midfield maybe, if we allow Roberts to return to Wolves. We’d be foolish to rely too much but if Taylor can come back January / February then he comes back as a wide player,  maybe on impact basis.

Other than that we could in January have a decent fit squad barring Miller, Westbrooke and Lavery long term.

How many times do we get players out for months then suddenly need surgery?

Worth asking Barnsley about Andrew Dallas, Gaz?

Goal every other game for Chesterfield before they signed him.

I think January is going to be a big window for us, we need a striker, at least one centre half and a creative midfielder just to get back to where we were start of the season.
Personally as much as I’d love to see Taylor back and flying all I can see is him having to retire. I really really hope he is over his injuries but after the 2 years he’s had I’m not sure.
Miller and Westbrooke are big losses

We have Anderson, Olowu, Senior and Bailey all fit and who play as centre backs, with Wood and Long with short term injuries seemingly. Only Faulkner appears to be out for a while. While it is not the most convincing central defensive unit we have lots of players for these positions and January is no time to be trying to sign someone permanently. Getting a loan player in at centre back doesn't make sense unless the injury situation deteriorates in the next few weeks.

I didnt know our manager had picked up a knock, anyone know how it's happened?

I did hear that the head of football operations has gone to the board asking for an increased budget with so many players out. Only to be knocked back because they had already given him a Grant.

You're right. January isn't the best window as usually it means taking risks or spending more than players worth to prize them out of their contracts. We're still suffering with players we've taken risks with (Lavery and now Wood) so we need to resist the temptation to take further undue risks with players we can't get rid of further down the line.

That said, McCann has already said they've got their targets, one of which being a striker, so the update on Miller doesn't change that.

Whoever we get in, whether loan or permanent will need time to adjust so you'd hope something could be done early in the window.

It's going to be a tough ask for this crop of fit players to get through the busy Christmas period however, I think McCann has coped pretty well with whatever has been thrown at him with players willing to adapt to limit the damage.

Once again, I just think there are alot of clubs suffering with injuries and maybe the modern footballer can't cope with the number of games thrown at them too early in the season?

I’d send Robert’s back then if Marsh stays we have 2 loan places left, midfielder and striker must be the priority. Now if we could get Nixon on a permanent and give us a third loan space I’d say that’s the best we could hope for

No point in Marsh staying if he’s injured. We need players to come in who are fit and ready to play.

So long as we get them in at the beginning of January and we’re not sat biting our nails on the last day……..again!

Nixon is out of contract at the end of this season, as it stands.

Would be a good addition. Can clearly play in many roles too. Much improved since joining of all the players

Miller, Westbrooke, Lavery and Ravenhill won’t play again this season.

Wood, Maxwell, Faulkner, Long, Taylor and Marsh back in 3-4 weeks.

A “few” further players will miss the game on Saturday.

Pull the other one, with Taylor. The lad has gone to hell and back, but all that has to be taking its toll.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he retires before the season is over. Shame, but just a feeling I have.

Gutted about Westbrooke I thought he was in the frame to be offered a new deal as he only had till end of season with us.

Don’t know why they mention Taylor anymore. I know it’s polite and he’s probably a good lad but let’s just move on from it.
