Elliott Ward doesn't need telling twice that he's playing for his footballing future at the Rovers.

He's saying all the right things, isnt he.  I for one would be delighted if we could make him a permanent signing, but I suspect the signing of Shelton Martis has scuppered that one (unless the board decide we need more quality at the back)

Why not start a fund to sign him as well, at this rate we will have more players than Man City  :woohoo:

If he's on a free in summer, can we assume that this means Rovers will be letting Shacks back never to return?

Hang on a minute, lets not be too hasty,Shacks has done a great job for us this season and there is only one reason we should not try and sign him permanently and thats how much his wages will have to be.If there is room for negotiations then they should be followed and lets wait a bit longer and see what Elliot ward is like over a longer period before making our minds up,I believe his move to Southampton fell through because the saints chairman was not happy with his high wages and made them opt for a cheaper player(wages wise) from exeter,he's only played twice for us so far and may not be any cheaper than Shackles wages wise.

From the 2 games I have seen of Ward, my head and heart are still with Shack.

Early doors for Ward I appreciate, so a better judgement might be had after a few more games or even the rest of the season.....that said he's going to have to go some to improve on The Shack.

Only seen Ward at Wednesday, but for me Shack is still in pole position, if only for consistency.

The difference may be that Ward will be on a free and the Shack won't.

the difference between shacks and ward is ward is a free contract in summer and we would have to fork out for shacks presuming his stay at rovers is a good one then i would bet ward would be the option in the summer rather than shacks

Happy with either and there's plenty of points to chew over -

Ward out of contract
Shackell can cover left back
Ward seems to have been on SODs radar a while
Shackell has looked good alongside various partners
Shackell has had a few injuries in his time here
