SOD is wrong.  First time and hopefully the last time I say that,( although I have at times silently pondered the wisdom of some of his substitutions)as Billy was onside. I thought it in real time and Sky plus confirmed it this evening.

The liner in front of the West stand had an absolute shocker. Oster was the best player on the pitch and it's been a pretty shite day at work in Whitley Bay.

I said he was shit when he stood there like a stroke victim in the first half as 4 Newcastle players were 2 yards offside.

I've not seen the video ('kin IE8 64-bit shite, with no 64-bit applications to run with it...) but if O'Driscoll is right and Sharp was a fraction offside then the linesman has guessed. He was in no position to make such a hair-line decision. I was sat straight behind him, and he had to run 6 yards to get in position to raise his flag AFTER the ball hit the back of the net. There is no way on God's Earth that he could have known for sure that Sharp was offside when Woods's shot came in. And the officials are supposed to give benefit of the doubt to strikers in these circumstances.

Not sure where the laws of the game stand on this, but as the ball is struck, Sharp's body is in front of the defender but his feet are actually level.

Having looked at the highlights Carroll's goal looks like a foul as he blatantly pushes Taliban away from the ball with his hand, not a shoulder barge.
Not a refereeing expert but it looks dodgy to me.

Found this from FIFA:

FIFA Laws of the Game
Quote
A player is in an offside position if he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.

In the definition of offside position, “nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. The arms are not included in this definition.

Could the left back have been playing Billy onside? It's very hard to tell because the camera zooms too far in and the left back is out of shot until the ball moves into the box.

I was saying exactly the same thing last night walking back from the game.  In my view, if (and its a big 'IF') Billy was in an offside position when the initial shot came in, the lino should have been waving his flag as soon as Billy moved in to pick up the rebound - not waited until everyone was nearly back at the half way line ready for the restart!! It was also interesting that no Newcastle defenders appealed for the decision.

For me, the biggest disappointment this season has been the number of games spoilt by poor officials.

It was Martis who played Carroll on side for their goal, that pic was a second or so after the ball had been played

Clincher is that the linesman gave the offside on the edge of the 6 yard box. Not 12 yards out where Sharp was in the above shots. He clearly made his decision based on where Sharp was when he scored.

Looking at the print screens of Billy Sharp, you can clearly see that he is fractionally offside as the ball is initially played into the area - therefore, as I suspected initially, the linesman has got the decision correct.

However, the defender appears to be tangling with Sharp big style. Is there a case for a penalty? Or has the linesman just spotted the offside first and gone with that decision.

Either way, rather than bleating about officials we need to draw a line under this and make sure we get one over on them Dingles on Saturday. There's a point to be proved, considering they've won their last 3 games against us!

If there is a decent ref and decent linos on Saturday, Rovers - on current form- should give the Dingles a right tonking! We've had enough of some very dodgy reffing and it's about time that we had a decent non-homer ref that will let the game flow, and hopefully let the teams create some good football. That should give us the first win over the three fingered inbreds for quite some time.  :cheer:

Since when is fending off a defender with an arm to the face as that gypo Carroll odes for their goal legal?

Regardless we had enough chances first half to go in at least two up.  Shame really as it would have been lovely to put one over on them.

I think the offside is inconclusive at best.

Ah well, f**k 'em.

chances of getting a decent ref and 2 linos who will let the game flow nicely in a blood and thunder derby match? zero to f*** all if you ask me. :(

That`s easy, red and white hoop`s of an insignificant pub team are easier to spot than the black and white stripes of a big club  :)

If u look on the sky sports highlights online don't even show the goal by billy but the attempt by Carroll where he his yards offside but bring on the dingles and take out a goal feast on them as it is we had bad decisions against and for us in the ref but I think half the linos know the rules of offside
