SOD would be seen as a very similar appointment to Tony Mowbray, i.e. plays good football with relative success, but unproven at the highest level. Celtic fans will demand someone now with a proven track record of top level experience, preferrably in Europe. I think that would rule current incumbent Neil Lennon out of the job.

And he hasn't played for Celtic.  That probably rules him out big style.  They seem to want ex players or those with Irish/Catholic links. That would be SOD's only hope, but it's more about who they are than what they can do.

Somehow I doubt he would turn that job down if it was offered to him!

Though three of their more successful managers (Jock Stein, Wim Jansen and Gordon Strachan) had no Irish-Catholic heritage and in two cases no link to the club.

I've heard a strong rumour that they will go for Sven-Goran Ericsson- who doesn't tick any of those boxes but is available and might do a decent job.

He's been a very good manager at Wycombe and at Colchester too. Not had a failure yet.

Neither had Tony Mowbray.

It's a big, man-eating t**t of a job. O'Driscoll would be further down the pecking order than Billy Bremner for this one. Old Billy might have been deed for 10 years  plus, but at least he wouldn't take any shit from the media.

Christ above, can you imagine the scene after Celtic have just lost 10 out of 11 with Robbie Keane playing at right back, the run culminating with a 0-14 defeat at East Stirlingshire and O'Driscoll coming into the press conference and muttering, \"Oim appy with the performance.\"

There'd be a whisper in his ear in a soft Oirish brogue, a taxi ride to Stranraer, a ferry across the Irish Sea, a blindfolded trip in the back of a van to the heart of County Down and BOOM...there go the kneecaps.

Actually SOD's name was mentioned on Talksport this morning reguarding the Celtic job, now I love the guy but if he ever went to manage that fenian scum then our love affair would be over
