App the police are saying it is keep the public safe and they don't want to offend non british. So all pubs are being told to take down all ENGLAND flags and not to serve people wearing ENGLAND shirts

ENGLAND shirts could be BANNED at pubs screening live World Cup matches.
Killjoy cops have urged landlords to bar anyone wearing a Three Lions top.

They want to avoid a repeat of violence which has marred previous events, particularly if England lose.

But one patriotic fan said yesterday: \"We often hear of a loss of pride in Britain, now cops want to ban the England shirt.

\"It's like saying anyone who wears one is a yob.\"

The advice comes in a letter from the Metropolitan Police to pubs in Croydon, South London.

Among World Cup guidance, it suggests \"dress code restrictions - eg no football shirts\".

It also urges using plastic glasses and door staff.

Pubs are not obliged to follow the advice, but it warns: \"Police will not hesitate to use powers under the Licensing Act should we find you are not actively supporting the prevention of crime.\"

Other forces could follow, but licensees' spokesman Bill Sharp said: \"The World Cup should be a chance for people to enjoy the football in the pub.\" The Met said: \"These are suggestions to make pubs safer.\"

Here we go again. The anti-PC brigade getting themselves all worked up over a non-story once again.

Stop and apply a bit of common sense. Where in any of the police statements does it say that England shirts should be banned?

Now, in the context of this advice being given in London,  think what they might mean by banning football shirts. Might it just possibly be a way of preventing aggro between, say, sets of fans wearing, say Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Palace, Millwall  shirts on a red hot summer day, with everyone canned up and emotions running high? Just possibly, eh?

Come on out from behind the barricades lads. There's a big, adult, sensible world out here, despite what The Sun would have you believe. The whole world isn't some PC conspiracy y'know.

Mind, I can't understand why the coppersare advising pubs to use plastic doormen. Maybe the H&S mafia are worried about the bouncers getting hurt. England eh? Political correctness gone mad, ah tell thi.

Why don't the Police go a step further and advise pubs not to show England games on their TV's? We can't have people celebrating England's goals and wins can we? that could also offend the non British!!

Why would the Pubs be asked not to show England Flags either then?

Does it say they have in that article though? (I've only skim read it).

There was a lot of trouble in Croydon pubs after the last England exit so that could be why the plod are being pre-emptive, but like BST says - theres a lot implied in the narrative that isn't actually mentioned in the quote from the Met.

There's nothing in that article about banning flags and there's nothing about not wanting to offend non British. Is there another article or are people just reading what they want to read?

This story is great for people that are incapable of exercising any level of common sense.

I have visited lots of pubs across the country, if I was going out for an evening at a nice Gastro-pub or Brasserie I wouldn't dream of wearing a football shirt, and if I was going to the pub to watch a football match I wouldn't dream of going to a nice Gastro-pub or Brasserie.

Since I was 16 and went for my first night out in town, I have been aware of a dress-code that applies in certain places, I've also been aware of a standard of behaviour that is required to avoid being thrown out. The level of tolerance changes from place to place, as you would expect depending on the kind of atmosphere the pub is trying to create to attract their share of punters.

If you want to get your England shirt on, swill down 15 pints of Carling and head to a quaint little Gastro-pub in Tunbridge Wells then expect to be turned away, you can then send your story to the Daily Mail and I'm sure they'll print it. If you would prefer to watch football in a 'football pub,' then don't get yourself in a spin about this kind of story.

Simple really.

It stated on TalkSport last night, that the police have issued a statement, saying they 'havent banned england shirts from  ANY pubs, and most of this nonsense has risen from someone making up a false group on facebook'. Good idea whoever created, get everyone wound up over nothing before the world cup has even started. Must admit, i have watched england in some pubs, and ended up with liverpool and man utd fans goading each other most the match. Luckily engand won, and everyone kissed and cuddled at the end, but you can easily see it going the other way if we lost.

Wear your england shirts with pride, put club squabbles asideand lets get on with winning this world cup thingy, and then get on with our next promotion campaign!!!  :P

Spot on with that last paragraph. Over here on Australia Day, every Aussie had a flag on their car and wore an Aussie shirt of some description. I was asked several times why I wasnt wearing one, and pointed out I wasnt an Australian citizen yet. This was met with looks of disdain. On displaying the flag of St George on April 23rd, this wound them up even more. Their argument is 'fit in or f--- off'. No argument really. Just one of the reasons I left the UK. Having said that, my England flag will be up for the duration of the World Cup

Spot on Awsworth_Rover.

This basically is a stunt by supporters of right wing ideologies to exercise racism whilst tapping in to our affectionate passion for football & asking the followers to follow suit. I would not be surprised if the BNP had something to do with this hate mongering....
