Bus passes
« on July 16, 2010, 12:54:57 pm by jucyberry »
Read today that the government is thinking of altering the age for bus passes... Now this I do agree with. If you work and you are 60 plus does it really hurt you to pay?
I might sound really tight now, but It does bug me that I have to pay £6 to get into town, and am made to feel like a fogey neglecter when I won't get up out of my PAID for seat for them...

Have to say I don't see why a small fee as before isn't needed.  My grandparents use buses a lot and even they agree that a concessions fair of 40-50p as with U16s per journey is a good idea just as it always used to be.  Might encourage OAPs not to get a bus for the sake of it that takes them one stop when in reality they could walk it many of them.

Fully agree with charging a nominal amount, of say 20p per journey. This would stop dodgy bus companies ringing through phantom pensioner journeys, knowing that the government will cough up the fare. It will also stop pensioners making the unnecessary journeys. This would save more millions than raising the age early.

The oldies around here are very territorial about their seats on the bus, they get very huffy if someone sits where they think they should be, I guess they can just pootle round all day so get used to a particular seat.  it never ceases to amaze me how agile they are too.  when it first went out of town, Tescos laid on a free bus to get people to it's store.. I have seen old dears traverse the gangway of a moving bus   whilst it is swaying from side to side in their quest to get off and running before any one else..You wouldn't believe it if you didn't see it with your own eyes.

The method  in their madness being, two items of shopping, then dash back out to stake their claim at the front of the queue, marking their territory by placing shopping down  in a line, before heading back to the coffee shop for a good moan about the youngsters who sat in Agnes's seat ..lol

Between my house and kings Lynn there are approximately 15 stops, on  typical day the busses are full, I guess perhaps there will be between six and ten people paying, the rest  have a bus pass...

  This is so true, they don't often have the concept of a queue either, it's a mad scramble when the bus pulls in.  I once saw an old lady ask a guy with crutches to stand up her argument being he had crutches.  Some of them take it far too far.  Same as after I had surgery where I got complained at for not giving up my seat, I'd just got out of hospital and couldn't stay stood for very long as it was, but as it wasn't a visible injury I got complained at, it's fair enough if an old gentleman/lady has real problems but half the time they don't.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if it wasn't £2 each way on the bus and you end up standing when the OAPs get on for free.  No doubt it's the right thing to do but it isn't half frustrating, particularly in the case of when I'd not long since come out of hospital.

Give me ten youngsters to on pensioner any day, Working in a shop, I get to see the very best and worst of them. They have very little in manners, and carp and moan about everything from the prices to the music being piped over the sound system...

one old darling (I hate her) actually complained that as we had no 'coloureds working here, why were we playing this terrible music'? she is so vile, bitches about everything, then in the next breath will tell you how she only gets out once a week and how good it is to have someone to talk to! I'm not at all suprised she has no one to talk to, I time my lunch break so I don't have to serve her...lol  ..

Manners are a two way street, and quite frankly I don't blame the kids for being less than enthusiastic about the older generation.

I don't know how I could've posted such a thing Debs. It must have been a severe reaction between my stress medication and that half a glass of sherry I have with my evening meal.
