The simple Maths of our predicament
« on April 28, 2011, 09:11:42 pm by Donnywolf »
... does anyone know the \"simples\" answer to how relegation issue is settled assuming :

1) we say SKitsons are down

2) we lose both / Blades win both

3) we end on same points and same goal difference

After that - what are the criteria ?

1) Points
2) GD
3) Goals Scored
4) Alphabetical Order

Should either the Championship, Promotion/play off place or Relegation place be undecided then it will be a play off rather than alphabet.

Although on football manager I found this scenario and 1, 2 and 3 were all level (for a play off spot) and it counted it on away goals scored.

Can you provide any evidence of that?

You beat me to it. So there'll be no play off because of our superior record P.2 W. 1. D.1 this season.

9. METHOD OF DETERMINING LEAGUE POSITIONS
9.1 At the end of each Season the Club in each Division
scoring the highest number of points shall be declared the
Champion Club of that Division. Three points shall be awarded
for each League Match won. One point will be awarded to each
Club for a drawn match. If two or more Clubs have scored the
same number of points their position in the Division shall be
determined on goal difference, that is to say, the difference
between the total number of goals scored by and against a Club
in League Matches in that Season, and the higher or highest
placed Club shall be the Club with the highest goal
difference. If any two or more Clubs have scored the same
number of points and have the same goal difference the higher
or highest placed Club shall be the Club having scored the
most goals in League Matches in that Season.

9.2 If two or more Clubs have the same number of points, goal
difference and goals scored the highest placed Club shall be
determined by the respective League records against each
other, taking into account in order of precedence, points
gained, goal difference and goals scored. If the above
procedures do not separate the Clubs, then the Clubs concerned
shall play off a deciding League Match or Matches under
arrangements approved by the Board on a neutral ground. The
net gate money after deducting the usual match expenses shall
be equally divided between the two competing Clubs. Any Club
staging such a play off match shall be entitled to charge as
an expense against the receipts of the match 10% of the gross
gate receipts after deduction of Value Added Tax. In the event
of such a match being arranged by the Board to be played on
the ground of a Club which is not a member of The League, then
a similar charge as an expense against the receipts of the
match shall be paid by The League who shall otherwise be
responsible for the financial arrangements made with the Club
staging the match. These provisions shall determine the
ranking of Clubs in their respective Divisions.

If it comes to goals scored then we are gonna be safe, Sheff Utd have to score 12 just to be equal with us. that is not going to happen.

so if we lost both our games 1-0 and Sheffield United won both their games 6-3, then we would be in a play off situation.

Spot the redundancy above B)

If we are measuring head-to-head matches and goal difference doesn't separate the clubs, that means the goal difference in the matches is zero meaning both clubs scored the same number of goals in the head-to-head matches :coat:
