Dont know why alot of fans are having ago at him having the ball passed back to him alot if nothing is on further up field.Would much prefer the defenders pass it him back and keep hold of the ball rather than punt it up field where it becomes more than likely we would be trying to compete for the 2nd ball.Yes sometimes it looks risky when playing it around at the back but in the main they look in control and trying to entice the other team to open up more. As for Woods himself i don't think he has done anything wrong in the 3 games so far apart from the 1 goal kick which he tried a quick pass to Muzzy yesterday, and for someone to say he was poor 1st half yesterday is some what of a joke really, can't really be blamed for the goal. sum may say he should of come out for it but it was a quality cross which looked like it wasn't going to reach Nolan with 2 other defenders there. His distribution on a whole has got alot better and also produced another class save when tipping Nolan's chip onto the bar.
He never got anywhere near Nolan`s chip
QuoteHe never got anywhere near Nolan`s chipI think you'll find he saved Nolan's chip as you can clearly see on the FLS.
He wasn't best positioned initially to allow that chip, but he did well under the circumstances to back track and get something on the ball. His distribution does look something different at times, but on current evidence his shot stopping knack is impressive. I'd rather him pass 15yds to nearest defender for those ball playing players to then play the ball as they like, then Woods lose confidence with fans getting on his back aimlessly punting the ball up field and losing possession instantly.
did you go to any matches where he played last season, because he pulled off some fantastic saves then?
Gary Woods is not good enough to be our No. 1 keeper . But like other positions in the team the club appears not to have the funds to improve. So he will be in goal for us, let's hope he can improve his control of the area because yesterday he relied a lot of the time on his defenders instead of taking control.
Can't blame Woods for any of the goals so far. .
