He did,  but I think he's going to struggle to make it in to that top 5 Wilts old boy.

John Moncur during the Cusack days (think we got him from Spurs) and also Danny Williamson from West Ham deserve a mention.

Seem to remember him coming direct from Sunderland? Great signing by Ian Atkins.

Williamson was quality. You do wonder though about how a skilful and talented baller like him managed to make any impact ploughing up and down the wing in the Fourth Division during the mid-90s.

He also made that \"second from the right on the bench\" position his own.

I saw Goodman play for Sunderland against Barnsley one Sunday lunchtime at Jokewell back in the early 90s and we was a monster.  Shame we never saw that in the hoops.

I too watched Goodman at jokewell,In the late 80's for West brom against the Dingles. He played the lone striker, and he missed a fair few that day,he did'nt do the business and they drew 0-0.

Your right keysor,Im thinking of a different player, cawthorne obviously is the Graeme who was our player not a loan.I will do a bit of research in a bit and see if I can work out the player im thinking of.He was a midfielder and we loaned him in the late 80's but we could not sign him permanent.will get back in a bit later.

I think the strangest loan we ever had was Ernie Hunt who came from Coventry City for just one game when he was a regular in the Coventry team.

Hard to compare across eras given the difference in the level we play at, but Danny Williamson was one of the best players I've ever seen play for us. You could tell immediately that he was a class apart.

Apparently we baulked at the £60k asking price from West Ham - ridiculous when you think about it. Remember him tearing Scunthorpe to pieces in a 3-1 win at Belle Vue. I remember that game like it was yesterday. We'd gone one up and then Williamson jinked past a line of defenders before scoring a great goal into the bottom corner to make it two. Scunny got a controversial goal from (future Rover) Matt Carmichael after our keeper was pole-axed. Williamson then went on another run and set up Graeme Jones for 3-1. That was one of the defining moments for a very young Rovers fan, I celebrated it like a World Cup winner!

I was at that match as well. Start of a great run against Scunny including the Norbury match.

Interestingly, when Williamson was slotting that goal in, our current Chelsea loanee was still being breast fed.
