Even after we rejected Ipswich's £2.3M and Southampton's £2.8M. Reckon they just make stuff up.

It is possible, some release clauses do have lower amounts as the contract goes on.

Player X may have a clause with £8M as the release clause lowering to 1M in the final year as the contract is worth less due to it's length.

My guess is that if Billy goes the transfer fee will be announced as undisclosed

Wouldn't we just have sold up in the summer, if that was the case?

We've always maintained that he'll move on sooner or later, so why would we wait this long and get a worse deal?

On sky sports the other day it was mentioned a Premier  league club [ can't remember the club ] was buying Sordell [ Watford ] for 5 million. My question is who's worth more Billy or Sordell ?

my guess is that if more than one club wants him then the transfer fee will be higher than if its just one

We accepted bids in the summer and allowed him to talk to clubs, remember.

We even allowed Coppinger to talk to Ipswich for £300k.

What we should be grateful for is that neither player expressed a desire to leave at that point. We will have to see what happens now...

Will feel totally mugged for that price.

But, as has been mentioned, he may not have signed had these clauses not been inluded so I am just grateful to have seen such a quality striker playing for donny rovers in my lifetime.

Still hoping he is going to help us out by staying the season but looks like we want to cash in.

I was under the impression that the combined 2.6mill bid for Billy and Copps was point blank refused, and that the only offer that went any further was the 3million + bid from Southampton...

I was under the understanding we rejected all bids except the Southampton one.  And the 300k offer was publicly laughed at by JR and SOD.

It may explain why JR has been quoted several times recently that he has a gentlemen's agreement with Billy that he can talk to clubs offering £3m. If he doesn't want Billy to go why keep saying it unless that's his agreement with Billy irrespective of the contract detail.

I'm pretty sure we rejected the bid for Coppinger from Ipswich (as we did with their bid for Sharp.) As somebody already said, the only offer that got accepted was the Southampton £3.25m one, wasn't it?

What I'm saying is, we've known all along that we're going to lose Billy sooner or later, so when bids of £2.6m (from Ipswich) etc were coming along in the summer, why wouldn't we have tried to get that sort of money for Billy before the clause dropped? When Southampton's £3.25m bid was accepted, we pretty much begged Billy to stay - would we have done that in the knowledge that he'd be able to move on for peanuts 6 months down the line?

There`s one thing for sure, if he goes for less than the £3M that JR has said on numerous occasions, there`ll be a damn sight more people doubting anything that comes out of the club!

If the £1.85M is the correct figure then you have to wonder why the club keeps digging a bigger hole for themselves, it`s the same with the Diouf situation, a week ago it was announced that he was staying another 18 months, since then Saunders has said in interviews until the end of the season, but still he`s not signed!

Seth Bennett said at the time the Mirror story came out that he was under the impression the release clause was less than £3 million.

I'm starting to wonder if JR was just trying to inflate the price by saying \"If we're offered £3million\"

Perhaps Billy isn't willing to go unless it's 3M?

I remember seeing a figure of £1.75M being bandied about before JR mentioned the £3M. As Filo says, if he ends up going for significantly less than £3M there will be a huge credibility problem. Ditto if Diouf suddenly can't find a pen and ends up in Russia or the USA come March.

We allowed Coppinger to talk to Ipswich and he listened to their offer before opting to sign a new deal with us. That is a fact.

Says here the offer was rejected out of hand by JR. Something he also stated during the AGM before the west ham game!

JR said in the last couple of weeks there is a release clause in Billy's contract that allows him to move for £3m in January

Or, depending on which article you read/believe, JR also says he has a \"gentleman's agreement\" with Billy.

I guess we'll never know which one is the truth.

No matter what was said in interviews we allowed Coppinger to speak to Ipswich, he spoke to Ipswich before opting to sign a new deal with us.

Hearing what Bill has said and done in the past for our Club I'm sure he will hold out for the best deal for both parties, most players wouldn't give a hoot but i believe Bill will and there will be a bidding war, my guess he goes for somewhere between 3.5m and 4.5m. Or just stays which would be better :rtid:
