No, I'd say the release clause in his contract forced him to sell.

Clause in contract.

We had no choice but to sell. Lets be honest the new contract offer was never going to be signed.

If Sharp wanted to stay he had a contract and not much we could have done about it. A Bid came in, we accepted it and Sharp agreed personal terms.

No he wasn't forced out

the new contract offer was only an update on terms of the 18 months he had left on his original contract - probably still a lot less than most other teams in this division are paying their strikers

The club need the money and cannot afford to pay the wages others can, simple as that.  The future of the club is far more important than one man.

Did the 4 resign because they could not keep hold of Billy and saw it as now inevitable we are doomed for relegation? Therefore has Billy going put the club into this position by going to Southampton?  Just a thought

They would not leave because of one player departing, no matter how vital to the team he is. Watson has left on health grounds anyway and I would not be surprised if his departure is the sole reason why his children left as well.

There you go folks, a post not all about negativity from me.

Am I right in saying Billy turned down a move to Southampton when his \"get out clause\" was £3m?
and the clause dropped to £1.5m from January?. If so,without wanting to sound critical of him, but did he delay it to improve his personal terms? We could certainly have done with the extra transfer money couldn't we? However, good luck to him & I have a feeling he'l be back here one day.

I would imagine he delayed it because he didn't want to uproot his wife when she was 6-7 months pregnant? Wanted to see how everything was in January? That seems sensible to me.

and just perhaps the fee and terms were as good as  agreed in January :) as quite a few sources keep saying 2.5 to 3m you never know, that lot just could be logical
