A friend of mine has been receiving strange messages from an apparent fake facebook profile impying her partner has been cheating on her. Her partner and friends have also received messages.

She is trying to track the person down but with no results. Would the Police be able to help here. Have read, and it seems it can be a minefield for even the Police to obtain IP addresses from Facebook and the ISP, but it is causing a bit of alarm for the person. There haven't been any threats or abuse or anything like that.

Id be suprised if they are the slightest bit interested until an actual offence has been commited.

Maybe worth the person contacting Facebook admin for guidance and/ or her internet service provider?

Best idea is to block it and ignore it, I've had this happen to me, not the same subject, about 5 times, just block it and ignore it. Best thing to do
