Macca - was pretty much at the start of things - our first real piece of proper talent following our "return".

Terrorised defences and that included three premiership clubs.

Derby came in for him, newly relegated from the Premier League, looking to build a squad to bounce straight back, and they probably doubled or trebled his wages.

Honestly believed Wellens would have been just what we needed last season. He would have given some much needed quality and end product to the midfield.

No contest. Although I think most of the names mentioned on tis thread are/were fabulous players, Alick Jeffrey was just SO much better. than any of them  That man was so bloody good he was scary. Every single England cap except full - including amateur. A Busby Babe with the 1950's equivalent of the pre contract agreement from the Great Man himself - except some gittish French lad then broke his leg at Ashton Gate. Alick was light years ahead of anyone else who has EVER played for the Rovers - including Harry Gregg.

Ian Snodin, without doubt the most talented player i've ever seen at the club in my time as a supporter from 79/80 to the present day.
How good would have our midfield been in the championship with Snod in it alongside Stock and Wellens!!!!

Answered your own question there by putting 'imo'. This thread is about players people would choose using their own opinion. I would agree about Matt Mills, he would be the player I would have back too, over either Shackell or Ward (and I know Ward is in the Premier League now). He also brought the best out of Sam Hird, that was a brilliant partnership the promotion winning season, culminating in that fantastic performance at Wembley from both of them.

richie wellens simple!, absolute class in our midfield, we should never forget the impact he had on our team when playing. Most confident player ive ever seen on the ball as a rovers player. He had that flair that swagger and carried it off like no other we ve seen, and on another note if we had kept him, mills , and had billy during that reign im sure we would have been play off contenders, ( i know it was unlikely but one can dream)
