Quiz???
« on June 05, 2012, 03:35:58 am by Mr1Croft »
Person who gets the right answer can ask the next question (you all know how it works by now).

So...

When was the first game the Rovers played on what would be known as the Intake Ground, or Deaf and Dumb Ground (as it was nicknamed)?

October 10, 1885 v Park Grange (Sheffield) in the First Round of the Sheffield Challenge. Rovers played on the Intake for thirty years, until the Royal Flying Corps took the ground over in WW1.

Q. This Rovers goalie made over 200 first team appearances for the club, before signing for Arsenal, West Ham, and Spurs.

HR is right John, and he should pose the next question. John, would you like to have a small wager about Eggett?

The Rovers signed John (Jack) Eggett (1874-1943) from Wisbech Town in 1894. He was a fearless stalwart in Rovers' successful Midland League XIs during the second half of the 1890s. Jack's brave performances in Rovers' two D2 campaigns in 1901/02 and 1902/03 caught the eye, and he moved down to London after the FL robbed the Rovers of its FL status in 1903.

That is actually incorrect...

I stand corrected -- but which team were the Rovers first Intake Stadium opponents?

The Rovers played there on October 23rd 1880, but were the visiting team and were playing the Deaf and Dumb institute XI, they would play here as the away team for a few freindlies in 4 years before asking to call it our home as well, it didn't become known as the Intake ground for a few years but the Rovers had played on that field before the 85, just not as a home team.

Sorry folks .... I was not questioning the validity of the answer but rather being sarky about the statement (you all know how it works by now)

Ken Boden from Thrybergh.  If I am right, my question is   " What was the name of the German side the Rovers played under the original floodlights at Belle Vue?"

I know they played Worms, but I was looking for a different answer. I think we are both right, but can anyone get the team I was referring to.

No, not Werder Bremen.  To give a clue this team danced around the pitch.

Werder Bremen.

I still have the programme from the Werder Bremen game. Their number 6 was Horst Hoettges who played in the 1966 German world cup final team.

No, the clue is dancing, if you think of a pop group you will get the name of the team.
