Bit of nouse wouldn't go amiss at this level. One year deal seems fair.

Reminds me very much of the Gareth Taylor signing.  Now he wasn't the best striker in the league perhaps ability wise a bit past it, but his experience around the team made a huge difference.  With a lot of younger players around such as young Jordan Ball it could be a big help that experience, you always need one in the squad of around that age IMO.

If, asa seems to be the case, we sign Reeves, then Robbie Blake could be the experienced head he needs to be able to learn a higher level of football.

Blake looks to be a very fit 36 year old and I would sooner have that than a 25 year old who thinks he can make a living by going through the motions.  Saunders knows him and what he is capable of doing and what attitude he has.

Something we've missed badly, IMO.

Yeah, take a quick look on a Burnley forum, they all say they miss him at their club.

Good signing. Getting on a bit but knows where the goal is for sure, just what we need. Experienced and has scored goals wherever he's played. We do need someone with a bit of pace up there though, I don't see him and Brown terrorising defences.

I think the idea will be to play him in midfield helping to provide the goals from ther that Saunders said was missing last season.

Well it's not a signing I'm massively enthused by due to his age, but I'll wait to see what he's like before I pass judgement.

On the up side, he has a bit of experience that he can pass on, he's a set piece specialist, and he's only on a 1-year deal, so no massive gamble. As others have already said, he could be a useful impact player.

Are Rovers trying to be a low key Man Utd and instead of signing Chinese lads to flog shirts in the far east we are filling our side with Welshmen to try and sell a few in Merthyr Tydfil ?

Cotterill is the only Welshman, and as they say "one Welshman does not make a team", as in swallows and summers.

I will wait to see how he plays in a league game before passing judgement on him

Think he will be great for the young lads and could be a future coach

Whats Ann Summers got to do with it?

And don't knock andy, Merthyr Tydfil is in fact Welsh for Middle Borough

Not overly mad on this signing but an intelligent player hopefully will do a job. We still need a goal scorer

Yankee.

Point of fact. The saying is actually "One swallow doth not a relationship make."

NY,
I now recall Blakie playing for Leeds and Burnley and I see him not as a striker but a play maker like Pirlo (37) did for Italy. I had reservations about him but he could be a very good signing.

Thank you Billystubbstears, I am obliged to you. Alick, I think he could be a really good experienced signing. Age is not the thing, there are players who retire at 27 and others who go on longer because they look after themselves.

Again - Pirlo has just (last month) turned 33.

He is not 37.

Hey Alick, what about Beckham 37, Giggs 39 and Scholes 38, tell me ANY League One manager who, if offered one or all of these three would turn them down for a one year contract?

Intelligent footballer, close control, great at taking players on,low centre of gravity, really hard to get the ball off,and a good finisher to boot, only drawback is his age,if Bolton thought he was past it he wouldn't have been in their squad,he reminds me a bit of Peter Beagrie,he played in the lower leagues near the end of his career, and nobody could get the ball off him,a very wise signing,i had a feeling last night it was going to be him,and i also thought it might be James Beattie,we got the best of the two this fella puts everything he's got into a game, whereas Beattie i've never been sure he's got a very good attitude :rtid:

I was comparing Robbie Blake at the Rovers to Jack Lester at Chezzie, Lester has been a great pro for them as their elder statesman and Robbie Blake could do the same for us.

sorry to piss on your chips but Scholes wanted to end his career at Oldham as he always said he would and they turned him down!!! He went back to United instead!!
