Regarding England's style of play:

If the current England team played the Brazil 70 or Holland 74/78 team and the game was played at the pace that those teams played in the 70s,  it would be the biggest mis-match of all time. The current England side would never lose possession.

The problem that England have is that they are incapable of keeping possession when the game is played at modern pace. But in terms of ability, the current players are streets ahead of anyone from the 70s. As I mentioned before, we sat mouths wide open when Cruyff did a Cruyff turn in the 70s. Now a carthorse like John Terry does it without thinking about it.

England couldn't retain posession of the ball against Sweden and the Ukraine. I really don't think these teams are far superior to Brazil 70, Holland 74/78.
