Interesting to see the population of Doncaster is now over 300,000. According to the Census, in March 2011 there were 302,400 people residing in Doncaster.A year before, the estimate had been for a total of 290,600. This shows the population estimates are flawed and suggests that the support grant handed down from the Government to the Council (which is around £500-600 per head) has been too low for quite some time.Conversely, several central London boroughs have seen their estimates go down. Westminster for example has seen its population fall by over 30,000.To put this into context, last year Doncaster was theoretically underfunded by £6-7m, whilst Westminster was overfunded by £15-18m. I'd be interested to see if this becomes "news".
