I wonder how many thought that when we signed Sharp on loan, I see a lot of similarity`s on how their career panned out, both prolific at league 1 but losing their way a little in the Championship

Isn't he a target man though? Also injured a lot while at Leeds.

Got a broken leg in pre season and then kept on getting reactions. He's 6 foot but knows where the onion bag is 29 goals in his last season in league 1 and 45 goals in 122 appearances

Billy Paynter had one good season at Swindon. He's injury prone and getting old, not what we need at all. We already have an injury-prone target man.

He`s 28, not that old, and young good strikers cost money, money we have n`t got!

He's just turned 28 getting old???
350 football league appearances tells me he isn't injury prone.
Can we not stop slagging players off before they even sign

Yeah having checked up I'll admit I was wrong there, thought he was older.

Still dont think he'd be a good signing but I've never said I don't want to be proven wrong. Dickos you need to understand that we can't all just sit and sing the joys about these potential new signings if they don't look all that great.

Paul Quinn is somebody I'd like to see us sign, tall, versatile and a much needed body at the back. There you go, didn't 'slag off' this one.

Paynter was very, very good at Swindon would do a good job here just think he's a bit similar to Chris brown in size and injury record but a better scoring history than brown

I just don't understand what expectations you have, we're in league 1 with no money. I think a free transfer of someone with his goal scoring record is a great signing. Who do you expect us to be signing?

If paynter does sign and becomes our 4th signing it would be 4 very good signings and if Quinn is to be the 5th then even better

I can see this one been a loan deal. I can't see how we could pay him what he will be getting at Leeds.

Brown has never played in League 1 though having left Preston to come to us before playing in it. I think a fit Brown (a big ask I know) will get 20+ in league 1.

Paynter's had a tough time of late, but clearly has talent.  Kind of player we need to be picking up again so I'd be pleased with him, he'd do a job I think if the manager sticks him in and gets his confidence up.

You know Dickos I'm going to relent on this one, my view of Paynter is largely based on his injury-hit Leeds spell which of course was in a higher division, so he could be a really good signing.

It seems Notts County are also talking to Paynter so this may be far from a done deal anyway.

Fingers crossed, although gotta say I'm pleased with the players already signed, and targets we're being linked with... Good one Deano!

Yes you'd think we were a little bit more attractive than them but suppose it depends what were offering him.
He did struggle at Leeds but along with his injury he had players like bechio, McCormack, etc to compete with

Paynter has 89 goals from 312 games at League One level.

Hardly prolific and absolutely nowhere near as good as Billy Sharp at League One level, but dare I say a better strike rate than any other of our current strikers at present.

At 28 he will still have a few decent years left in him as well, before he ends up overweight and past it like Robbie Blake.

Get him signed!!!

I agree, get him signed. Lots of players get more prolific as they get older so not concerned about his overall tally. Its the last 2-3 years that matter and that is encouraging (taking out his injury hit season with Leeds).

Nope. Just pointing out that he is nothing like Billy Sharp as someone else stated.

I never said he was like Billy Sharp, what I did say was that both their careers had taken a similar path!

Yeah. They've both played football professionally. That's where the similarities start and end.

Yeah. They've both played football professionally. That's where the similarities start and end.

They've both had a prolific spell at a middle of the road L1 club and gone on to a big Championship club and not scored. We got one Billy scoring again so why not the other.
