Two excellent away results, first home game for a month, and a 500 dip on our last home game.

Not good.

Rubbish crowd that's for sure but for top of the table the Stevenage numbers were awful.

To be honest, it's no good having a go on here about it. By posting on here, you're mostly aiming it at the people who do go, or would go if they could. It's the floating fans/wider Doncaster public that need to be targeted.

On a positive note, it's quicker getting home  :chair:

Seriously though, I think part of that was due to how few fans Stevenage brought, especially for a Saturday.

I didn't think they brought any less than Crawley did. I just thought there would be a few more there after two good away results and a long time since our last home game.

Nah, it was the home stands that looked decidedly sparsely populated today.

It's not only us, I saw Hull City are seeing a drop in attendances too.

Hard times in places like Donny. The Free Press reported there has been a near 20% rise in shoplifting, much of it stealing for food. When some people are finding it as tough as that, you can understand why others are making a saving by missing the football.

Poor attendances , that's the least of their worries . The team needs freshening up. , players look knackard and it will not get any better unless the purse strings are loosened to bring in more qualifying midfield as Keegan looks absolutely clueless and Cottrill has forgotten how to cross a ball without hitting the nearest defender. Crowds won't pay to watch much of this .

Given the way we played at sheff u, and again today I'm not surprised ! Utter dog poo!
It's a very long time since I've been this gutted, the realization that half decent football is light years away.

Less than ten games into the season with a group of players of which 75% + were not here last season. Doubt we will get any cohesion until Christmas and only then if we don't have injuries.

But how many of the home support would know that? Many didn't go and it was reported as a resolute defensive display and a well won point against one of the best sides in the league.

We're not doing at all badly results wise either.

Honestly, I thought with us not playing at home for so long and Stevenage flying high, we would get a decent turnout today.

Can't honestly see the attendances picking up until-

a) the standard of football improves
(pretty dire to watch at the moment)

b) some of these new signings/loans actually happen
(what happened to the list that Saunders gave to the board of players he wanted?)

c) perhaps fans are thinking if its not in the clubs "business plan" to get promoted this season, whats the point in going to watch them. It seems that this season is all about cutting the wages bill & consolidating in league 1. Hardly gets fans rushing to the turnstiles does it?

Can't see how this attendance is a huge problem. If we got that mark every home game we probably aint doing that bad. Remember where we have come from. If we struggled to make 10k in the championship, we will only bring in similar against the bigger L1 teams.

I know it was on sky but less than 14,000 at Birmingham. Unbelievable result for Dingles, but only 259 went. That is embarrassing.

Only 21000 at Derby (averaged 26k the previous two years and 29k the year before), 13000 at Birmingham today and Blackburn yesterday, and only 13000 at Crystal Palace. Not saying it's not a concern for us, but low attendances seem to be a theme spanning football generally this season, not just Rovers.

on official site it says 308 stevenage and 5900 overall, crawley brought 225 according to dros and the attendance was 6400.
we do need more people through the gate but complaining on here is not the answer most on here will have been there or would have if finances/work not stopped them.
bring family/friends to the next game try to persuade them to come again, if the half the 5600 rovers fans manage to bring a friend each then thats 2800 extra. if they enjoy they will come again.

Stevenage will be pleased with their following today, they only get gates of 3k at home and there looked about 8-10% of that in attendance, for the size of their club and fan-base (they only took 4,000 to the play off final a few years ago.)

I'd still say that anything above 5000 is a good attendance for L1.

Without causing offence to Stevenage and Crawley, they aint big draws in the same sense as a Coventry or Sheff Utd. That means they don't bring many fans, our fans aren't particularly attracted by the fixture etc. They may prove me wrong and go up, but they will be unfashionable for a while.

I still think marketing has a big part to play, and unfortunately it is still non existent. I drove home today and saw a bunch of kids playing on a park. Two were wearing Rovers shirts. Clearly not been to the game. I think the pricing structure is nearly there, especially the family options. Just think we should be going the extra mile to get them there.

just short of 6000 is still a decent attendance for average/above average L1 team, we arent massive and cant attract 15000 like sheff utd can. stevenages support was decent for a club their size plus it is a 3hr trip roughly.
like i said try to persuade a friend to come  maybe we can get closer to matching sheff utd and increase our budget which could then knock on to results by improving the squad. an extra 1000-2000 would be great but it will take time to attract this amount on a regular basis.

I can see us doing 8000 plus easily against some of the teams in the league. Its not going to happen against the two mentioned. Dirt cheap season tickets for kids are the way forward, if we can do this season on season we might keep a few.

on another note, i am at hull university but my campus is high melton which means i can live at home and study. whilst at a freshers party last week there was a table selling tickets for todays match, rovers had sent a ticket office member of staff to use this oppertunity of 400 students in 1 room to maybe shift an extra 150 to students that aren't from doncaster. this i think is very clever as many would come throughout the season whilst living here, seems the new structure has common sense.  :rtid:

For a lot of people in Donny, payday is this week. And I know loads of people who went to the Leger and are skint now.  You could see it in town on Friday night, the annual post-Leger come down with the pubs half empty. I know a fair few who gave this game a miss because of that.
