Seems that they are taking precautions in view of the likely freezing temperatures. Hopefully the game will be on.

Looks parky over there- especially on Saturday. Though if the covering is up to the same standard as ours the game should be on.

Proper Brass Monkey weather though!

I've feared for the Boxing Day game since the fixtures came out, Boundary Park aka Ice Station Zebra.

It's not ideal is it and I've promised to take my young nephews who live in Stockport to the game!

On the plus side - if it does get called off, at least they'll get out of Stockport for a bit

From today's Oldham Chronicle newspaper:

THE Boundary Park playing surface will be covered until tomorrow morning but Athletic’s FA Cup second-round clash with Doncaster is NOT in doubt.

Chief executive Neil Joy said: “The weather is not an issue. The temperature is likely to drop to one below freezing overnight tonight, so the covers will stay on until tomorrow morning.

“But there is absolutely no doubt the fixture goes ahead, and I send out a call-to-arms to everyone to come along to the biggest match of our season so far.”

Chief Executive says match definitely on. Now where have I heard that one before...  :ermm:

Hope he's right as the last thing we want is another midweek game.

Still don't understand why it's such a big game for them

Still don't understand why it's such a big game for them

Financially they really need round 3 of the FA cup, and also they're not in the running for promotion it seems so they need a cup run to make the season mean something.

They're out of the Johnstones as well so if they lose this one their season will be almost as good as over.

What concerns me is that there may be a bit of a carry-over from Tuesday night. We don't want to pick up injuries and/ or suspensions as a result of an overly-physical game.

I know we're under strength but are we really "not that arsed?" I realise that if we do get through we'll probably draw someone like Hereford United away but there's always the remote possibility of a big payday that could help pay for new signings.

After we lost that game at Exeter a few years ago I remember thinking "ah, well..." until the draw was made and they got Man United away!

Yeah, not that arsed was wrong phrase, were certainly not as bothered as they seem to be.
It won't ruin my sat night if we get beat like a league defeat does, but I'll still be just as happy if we win and it'll make Sunday afternoon a better prospect looking forward to the draw.

Local weather over here is talking of snow on the high grounds and it's below freezing already at 4:30.

We should arsed regardless of what competition it's in. Wining breeds wining and like red baron says, could be a big pay day! I for one love the FA cup, so let's go all out for the win if we can

Even though sum fans are not arsed im sure Dean will want to get through, however i can see going there and playing for a draw like we did at Sheff Utd or to just try and get a goal from a setpeice

Still got a nasty feeling this will be off.
Leaving it until 12 to set off now, remember going Derby early a couple of year ago on boxing day only for that to be called off, don't want a repeat of that again!  :cold:

Doesn't look like it will be called off, seems they did a spot of training earlier...

...and have been covering the pitch since.

It'll be a good test to see which players are up for it.

That was down to a faulty generator, not the weather.

Great news, setting off in next 10 minutes or so.
Credit to Oldham for getting it on though if this is the case.

Credit to Oldham?  Its hardly -46 outside.

Anyway, just to clarify, this is not a game the club are taking lightly.  The comments Gavin Baldwin made at the VSC AGM earlier in the year still hold true and getting a good draw in R3 will allow us to be a bit more active in the January transfer window.

Yeah credit to Oldham, plenty of times lower league teams have failed to use their brains and left pitches uncovered until the day before, sure we've done this too. :chair:
