Chances of game being off?
« on March 11, 2013, 02:23:22 pm by mrfrostsdad »
I see the official site is asking for fans to clear snow from the stands at 1000hrs tomorrow.
With the weather forecast saying with the wind chill tonight it will be down to the equivalent of -10c, what are the chances of the game being off?

If it is I hope they call it off early. Don't want to drive all the way over from Scarbados again for the game to be called off an hour before kick off!

Very little chance of game off. Don't think wind chill factor affects temperature on the ground.  Covers will protect the ground.  Just need the snow clearing.

Wind chill factor has very little to do with ground temp.

The game will be on. Shouldn't be too difficult to clear and I'm sure if the pitch is covered it'll be fine. If this small amount of snow forces a postponement then there is something wrong.

There will be a pitch inspection but the covers are on and the appeal to fans was to clear the stands apparently.

I live nearish to the stadium and due to the sun being out all afternoon most of the snow on the ground has already disappeared. How much more are we supposed to get?

No Oslo,
I do know Miles vaguely though. BOught a car off him when he worked in a local garage.

According to official site there is a pitch inspection at 12 tomorrow. At least I won't have set off by then. I can see it being off

If they're having an inspection at 12 it doesn't look promising, does it?

There doesn't seem to be a lot more snow forecast for overnight, but tempearatures are due to drop to at least -3. I wonder if the pitch froze during/ after the rugby yesterday and they weren't able to cover it in time?

Yes I see they have changed the time on the the OS from 10:00 start to 8:30 (until 10:30) presumably to clear before the inspection. I was contemplating going but can't make the earlier time.

Hang about. I thought the ref had to make the decision?  Which ref gets there at that time for a 7.45 kick off?

To be fair, I don't think the snow is the problem. Frost (not you, Mr F!) is the problem.

Wouldn't be surprised to hear that the snow shifters are stood down tomorrow.

I would say so, seen as the report on the OS also goes on to say the groundstaff are preparing the pitch for the noon inspection.

The youth game at Cantley Park is on this afternoon, so the covers must be doing there job.   :)

Grassy area surrounding Keepmoat is soft enough. The light covering of snow and ice is melting. The outside temperature at my car is 1 degree. But while walking the wind chill feels colder. If the covers have done there work I cannot see the game being off. Even with the light flurries snow. Lets see we could do with the game being played. If off then Tues 19th March should be ok.

Was at the stadium snow clearing, there wasn't much to do tbf. Will all depend on the pitch, they were leaving the covers on till last minute. Groundstaff were giving nothing away tbh but like others have said the ground doesn't seem frozen in general. Fingers crossed.
Oh and it staged the rugby again on sunday so it should be in a right old state :O
