I won`t observe it, I hope the club refuse to even consider it!

It seems that the only people suggesting it are people off this site - so I doubt if it has even been considered by the club. It does seem some people are just trying to make an unneeded political point.

I don't think it is a good idea.  She has nothing to do with our club, and she has not died whilst in position as PM.  As has been said, too divisive.

She is not missed and not mourned by many of our fans, so I think it would be inappropriate.

Why would a football club hold a minutes silence for a former PM?  Its a ridiculous notion.

Unless she played up front for us in the sixties and I missed it.......

I'm sure we had her on loan last season

If we had, we might have stayed up!

Remember, she wasnt for turning, unlike Illunga and Baye who seemed to be forever running in on their own goal.

Ridiculous suggestion, won't happen. The country is split, half loved her half hated her. Not a good way to start a match. Don't associate her with football at all.

You could have the same minute as silence for those who supported her and applause from those glad to see the back of her. It would certainly be interesting.

I'm not going to insult your intelligence but I am guessing you are aware of the miners strike and the impact it had on places like hatfield, Moorends, Thorne, Stainforth, Askern etc? Celebrating her life in south Yorkshire is not a good idea, especially Doncaster.

Why not do it for the home game against Notts County. Now that would be interesting!

Maybe a selection of hand-picked tunes for half time?

Margaret On the Guillotine
November Spawned a Monster
Stand Down Margaret

etc

I'd say there is a fair chance of many anti-thatcher chants.

I hope this isn't even considered, that elbow on Tottenham's Mendes was a disgrace!!
On a serious note, although a hell of a lot of my family & friends were deeply affected by the whole miners strike episode & I worked for British coal a few years later before being made redundant when the pit shut, I can't get too giddy about someone's grandmother dying. Granted I never lost any sleep last night but seeing pictures on the news of people celebrating on the streets is a bit much even if she was an old cow & royally f**ked over many area of the country.

Nah, that was Herold Goulon! Thatcher would've done a better job, heard she was good at setting up strikes?!  :chair:

I hope her two kids picked up the tab for her care at the RITZ ?

By the way her snotty son should be serving time in a African jail not waiting for his dropsy

A sensible approach from most sports bodies.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22078110

Maybe this might be an opportunity to get rid of the notion of a minute's silence/ applause at sporting events other than for those connected with the sport/ club involved in a very direct way.

I think having a minute's silence would be too controversial. While I'm not going to celebrate her death I wouldn't be comfortable with paying my respects to someone who in my mind deserves none. You can see how divisive it is just on here, actually trying it in a football ground would be asking for trouble.

Respect is earned, not given, and forcing people to pay their respects to someone they hold in contempt is going to lead to ugly scenes.
