I hope you heard John on Radio Sheffield! He gave a long list of things he's looking for in the new manager, he spoke briefly on Paul Dickov and Terry Butcher and made assurances that him going on holiday will not affect the managerial search or handing contracts out to the playing staff. Pretty much answered everything folk were worried about earlier tonight!

On what he's looking for in the new manager...

  • young, progressive manager
  • can develop players
  • good buying/selling
  • good communicator
  • have a favourable track record in football
  • good contacts
  • be able to adopt the vision of the club
  • proven leader
  • proven success
  • modern techniques
  • highly energetic, hard worker
  • motivator
  • tactical awareness
  • doesn't cost a fortune to sign
  • good at working in the community

I know a lot of those may seem like obvious things to look for, it encourages me and also makes me think that someone like Dickov maybe isn't who JR is after.

On Dickov + Butcher...

Knows Dickov, he's a nice guy apparently and JR understands why his name is cropping up but states that the favourite pretty much never gets the job with Rovers. Both he and Butcher are good candidates. Said there's a few more who will also be considered.

Also basically said that Gavin will be in charge of sorting out the candidates, arranging interviews etc. and they'll begin in about 10 days time with the new man in a day or two later. The decision will probably be made by JR, Gavin and Dick Watson collectively. Said he has exciting transfer targets lined up so knows it needs to be a swift decision. Vast majority of the current players will be offered new deals too.

Just listened to that. Well the first requirement definitely rules out Warnock. And some of the others, such as proven track recored for example, seem to rule out Dickov.

GS doesn't have much in the way of a proven track record in management.

Having read the job spec, I think I know who he's got in mind- and within two weeks we'll know whether he'll be available or not.

JR pretty much always manages to get his Manager appointments spot on.

Lets hope he does the same this time

Phill Neville for me suits everything he is looking for in a manager apart from the main point young progressive manager, but I think he would be worth a great shout.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us go for Rosler if Brentford don't go up.

Apart from maybe costing a bit more than we would like, Owen Coyle ticks all the boxes and more.

Rosler would be a cracking appointment. He would be my first choice.

He could be progressive to be fair, and he is certainly young for a manager.

Only thing he definitely doesn't have is the experience.

If you look at the list,he actually does not say Experience, but "favourable track record in football" which some may take to mean in Management, but to me thats more likely to mean favourable Playing or coaching track record. If he meant management then I think he would have said "Favourable track record in management".Having said that, good at buying/selling would likely to mean from Management experience.
One name I keep wondering, which I don't think anyones mentioned since we won the title is Rob Jones. It would not surprise me as much as it will surprise others if it was. That list makes me wonder again, with all the talk of Young, proven leader, motivator, energetic, hard worker, won't cost a fortune etc.

If JR says we will be signing up the players who are out of contract I can't see a new manager wishing to have the Chairman pre- pick his squad , which confirms my hope it will be Deano.

I think to be fair, Saunders made his choice in January. Not blaming him for going but he left half a job done, we shouldn't really welcome him back with open arms knowing that if a bigger team comes knocking he will probably leave us again. Also, Saunders record in the Championship isn't exactly proven...

But then again, what do I know?

If we appoint the man who has two relegations in two seasons at this level then something is wrong. We need to go forwards, not look backwards to someone who left us for supposedly greener pastures.

I have a slight hunch it's Phil Parkinson and they are waiting until Burton dump Bradford out of the play offs tomorrow. Think he ticks all the boxes. Young, ambitious and a good pedigree.

All,

You may be interested in the regulations that apply in the Championship;

This is really simple for me. Do I trust John Ryan and the other owners to make the correct decision with respect to Donny Rovers. Yes. If the same question was asked of supporters about other Chairman across the UK very few could give this sort of response. Might he get it wrong? Well he might because who knows what might happen next year. I am just content to leave him/them to it.

Does that mean Phil Neville couldn't be our manger next season then due to him not having the uefa A license?

Someone with too much spare time on their hands, I hope.
