A BLAST FROM THE PAST ANYONE????

FROM TODAYS CARLISLE NEWS & STAR

CUMBRIAN STRIKER SET TO LINK UP WITH CARLISLE

Last updated at 12:17, Wednesday, 26 June 2013

Cumbrian Lewis Guy is set to link up with Carlisle United as the Blues return for training today.

The Penrith-born forward is among several players spending time with the Cumbrians on trial in the early stages of pre-season.

The 27-year-old Guy is under contract with SPL side St Mirren but it is understood he is heading for United with the Buddies’ permission.
It will give the former Newcastle, Doncaster and MK Dons man the chance to impress Greg Abbott and win a deal with the Blues.
Guy has often been monitored by Abbott in the past and is no stranger to Brunton Park, having played at United’s ground in a friendly last summer and previously with the likes of Oldham and Doncaster.

Indeed, the striker last year spoke of his fondness for United and his ambition to play for the Cumbrians, saying: “Obviously I have a soft spot for Carlisle – they are my local team and it would be nice one day to play for them. There have always been rumours but for whatever reason it’s never happened.”

Guy is understood to be among at least five trialists checking in at United today, with Abbott also set to welcome a goalkeeper, a left-back and two midfielders.

REGARDS

Despite all his "weeble" characteristics, he will still be a legend in my eyes for THAT goal at Derby.

Never thought I'd say it, either.

Must be getting sentimental in my old age......

....but in the advert for Webbles they used to sing "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down" .... exactly the opposite of Lewis Guy Guy Guy surely ?

Always kind of liked him, however it was getting silly how easy he fell over

One of the best players I've ever seen without the ball.

Am I right in thinking he got D Moore sent off at Barnsley by slowing down enough to get brought down ....

... rather than daring to go clear on goal one on one with the Keeper

There's a Derby fan at work who dreads the Rovers playing against his team. I like to remind him that their record against us is do bad that even Lewis Guy scored against them.

For that reason I love him.

Oh, and also the fantastic layoff to Heffernan against Villa. As good a goal as I ever saw at Belle Vue.

Yet another player who could have made a real name for himself, he had the pace & a fair amount of skill a lot of players would have given their right arm for, unfortunately, for whatever reason, he chose not to use it to his advantage & is now touting to play for his 'home town club' at Carlisle, says it all really. Did he really have the ambition to be a top player? not so sure myself, never seemed to have that hunger of a young player given the opportunity to play in the Championship, good luck to him though, just hope he doesn't live to regret the opportunity he had here at the Rovers.

Although I don't usually have 'insider' information, I once did have a chat with Mickey Walker at a Rovers function.
He told me that they had tried and tried to get Guy to stop diving but it just went in one ear and out of the other.
He also confirmed that Guy had tremendous talent, but to put it bluntly  was a bit 'thick'. In Guys defence Walker said that all players at that level (league one) were flawed in quality in one way or another, and had Guy's attitude been better he would still be at Newcastle utd (he was THAT good).

To summerise it seems he had everything needed to be atop class player......almost.

If Lewis Guy had shown the maturity of Billy Sharp, the former would have been a much more effective player.... More effective himself I mean, not more than BS....

Lewis was a nice guy on the occasions I played golf with him - he was always saying how lucky he felt having managed to win the third div, play at Cardiff, beat Man City and Villa and generally be around DRFC in some great times. He loved his time here and was gutted he'd let himself down with his application.

However, it would seem, and I've not seen him in a while - that he never learned from his errors - more fool him! Untapped potential!
