Please tell me what Joseph did that was obnoxious today?
Here's one about the ref. An issue that stuck out like a sore thumb.70 mins or so, we had a goal kick. There'd been a stoppage (maybe when Austin went off to have his stubble moisturised). The ref then pointedly went up to Turnbull and told him not to waste time. Now, at that point, Turnbull was not wasting time. The ref hadn't signalled to him to restart the game after the stoppage. Also, Turnbull had not been wasting time before that. Not as far as I could see anyway. And why would he? We were the better side and the one looking best placed to win the game.Yet the ref decided that he had to warn Turnbull about timewasting. And he never thought to issue a similar warning to Green. Interesting, that. To me, it seems clear that the ref had decided that Donny were the ones who were likely to want to play for a draw, and to waste time. There was no evidence of that happening, but the ref assumed it would. A minor point, but indicative of how Big Club Syndrome affects the officials, even perhaps in a sub-conscious way.
I thought that he had blown up for the foul, a definite yellow for me. (Me too)He took the easy option. We are always going to struggle against the so called bigger teams, it just happens. The incident with the first half throw in summed it up, the Lino didn't have a clue, neither did the ref so we'll give it to the bigger club. (I thought the default action in such a scenario is to favour the defending Team ... but as you say these officials defaulted to the "BIG Team")We still won in the end though. (Yes we did - brilliant way to get our own back !)
Did we actually have any added time for the first half yesterday? I never noticed the board going up or the usual announcement and we seemed to stop seconds after the clock hit 45.
IDMWe will have to disagree, because I had seen nothing remotely close to time wasting by Turnbull. Sure, he hasn't been busting a gut to retrieve the ball and restart, but if the QPR players were consistently unable to keep the ball on the pitch, why on earth should a keeper sprint to retrieve it? That's not time wasting. I'll give you another inconsistency. After QPR scored, I counted 30 seconds from the Rocers having the ball on the centre spot to all the QPR players being back in their own half ready for the restart. The ref said not a word to any of them. Not one word. Yet when the Rovers players celebrated by the SW corner after Quinn's goal, he was immediately there shepherding them back to the halfway line. Why?30 seconds wasted in celebration and deliberately slow walking back is 30 seconds lost, be it in the 43rd or 90th minute.
IDMYou're right about the added time for goals. The point is, why hurry one team along to facilitate a quick restart and not do the same for the other one? Unless you sub-consciously think that only one of the sides really needs to engage in time wasting? Whilst the other one is so strong that it has no need to do so?Me, I can't think of any alternative explanation. And it's one that fits with the ref's decision to pre-emptively warn Turnbull.

Billy I couldn't agree more with your observations. I wasn't at the game but dissecting arguments and counter arguments it is clear that this referee was a 'big team' referee.
