hull tigers name change petition.

https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/hull-city-afc-stop-and-reverse-the-unwanted-rebranding-of-hull-city-afc

Thought this might be of interest to some people on here? I've signed it, i find the whole thing outragious.

I can't stand Hull City but I signed the petition as there's an important principal at stake. Supporting tradition in football is of paramount importance particularly when the English game is being influenced by foreign ownership

If they don't like it tell him to go elsewhere with his barrow of money
Easy solution
People want it all ways
Hull are successful this season
Good manager
Good players
Where has all that appeared from
It's not magic

Why all the fuss, it will only be a "Trade Name", not necessarily a change of Identity. In much the same way as AFC Bournemouth is a trade name, but club still officially is "Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic Football club".

Lets face it DRFC could become "Doncaster Sporting Club" as a trade name, but still be officially registered as "Doncaster Rovers FC".

I can't see what use this petition is. They've applied for a name change which will have to go before the Membership Committee at the FA and the decision will be made from there.

I suspect Mister Allam might get a rude awakening.

It's another way of showing how much support there is against the rebranding. Obviously it can't do anything in itself, but if the FA knew about the petition, and the number of signatures, it might hopefully be another little something they pay attention to... hopefully.

Rob,

Of course, but they are well aware. They have been searching their rule book for quite a while on this one!

By the way, I wasn't agreeing with the change, just saying that I wasn't sure what use the petition would be, the best course of action was to write to the FA spelling out their disagreement and their concerns, which I believe is what they've done.

The FSF have a meeting organised with them this Saturday.

It's been done before though, Stevenage dropped the Borough from their name a couple of years back. Obviously not such a radical change but it has been done.

Hmmm. Did Hull support Rovers when we were on our knees? Don't seem to recall anything... Could be wrong.

Signing the petition as I personally don't agree with what the owner is trying to do.

First they came for the Communists,
 and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Socialists,
 and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
 and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

So just over 9000 have signed the petition so far, just over 19000 at the game against Swansea, take away those from this forum who have signed the petition, seem that most of the Hull fans are not that bothered.

If some guy was prepared to tip up multi-millions into DRFC to try and establish us into a solid top tier side would our fans be happy to accept being called Doncaster Vikings as part of the deal.
I suspect the change in name would soon be forgotten when Chelsea, Arsenal and the Manchester's were regular visitors.

Yeah because the FA took good notice of the Belles petition didn't they. All the chairman will have to do is line the pockets of those involved and the name change is as good as done.

C'mon Benny, that's a stab in the dark, two totally separate issues and will be dealt with differently. I can (almost) guarantee the name change is not being taken lightly.

On past form, I would expect the FA to do sweet FA.

PDX, if you bother to check your history books you will find that Hull were in a very similar position to us in 1998-99 and were going the same way, so probably had a bit on their plate then. Did you do anything to help out Maidstone? Or Aldershot? Or do you just like cheap shots?

SM, the main reason for having a petition is so that people feel involved. I wont sign it as I think it should be the Hull fans who decide, but no need to disrespect the ones who do.

I signed it, then I gave it more thought.

They could call us "Donny Hump Backed Whales" for me, if someone invested the same kind of money!

And I bet most the Hull fans feel the same, strange one really, I'll think about it more IF it ever happens.

SM- what's to say that the FA will not palm the job off to some faceless "independent committee" to make the decision. Just like they did over Wimbledon/ Franchise?

Wilts,

Where do I show any disrespect to people who've signed the petition??

If you read my posts you'll gather that there's a lot going off in the background where the hull fans are getting a lot of support from the football community. Most notably from us in the FSF.

I give in.

They won't because they can't. They have an elected Membership committee who meet regularly to decide on certain issues, and this one is definitely their decision to make.

SM, its the first sentence of your first post on this thread. I believe that it is disrespectful, you obviously don't, so we shall have to agree to disagree on that.

Yes I am sure there is a lot going on in the background, but a petition is in the foreground and lets those who sign it feel they are doing something towards a cause. Whether that is 'any use' or not depends on your view of public involvement doesn't it.

Im no hull fan I just completely disagree with the way investors and business men have turned football into a corporate experience for the executive types and completely abandon the working class supporters. When those people have made their millikns and f**ked off its the fans who have to pick up the pieces. What would people rather have, a football club they can connect with and be part of, or the sale of the identity of the club just so man utd chelsea and arsenal can rock up to town once a year?

Wilts,

I'm not sure why you're picking an argument with me, but my view is based on the numerous football campaigns I've been involved in, and continue to be involved in, over the years. Petitions don't do any good and are poorly supported, especially by football fans, which is then used against them.

If football fans did forget their tribal loyalties now and again then they would be the most successful consumer group in the country, but they won't. Safe standing is a case in point, every survey ever done has shown over 90% of fans in favour! Every petition ever launched has failed miserably giving the opposition the ammunition to shoot down the argument.

Who would this petition be given to? Allam? Well he'd ignore it. The FA? Well they will stick to the rule book, how can they do anything else? In that respect my comment wasn't disrespectful.

Well,
If the Hull whatever fans don't like it, I suppose Allam could always go and take his millions with him and they can go back down to the bottom division.
Then, if Mr Allam wants to come to Donny, give us all his money and change our name to F***face United and get us into the top flight, that's fine by me
