I think the atmosphere of it all makes up for it though really - especially with such a big race. If you do manage to get a decent spot for the finish it's bloody brilliant. I managed to get a good place near the finish line for the final sprint in the Tour of Britain first stage a couple of years back when it was in York and it was such an adrenaline rush.
Crass commercialisation of sport...sounds like my worst nightmare!
