Alan Warboys ran the Ring O'Bells pub in Swinton for many years. I used to go there regularly and he was a great host. I seem to recall hearing that he'd retired a few years ago after a health scare, but I don't know if that's correct.

Alan Warboys in 2006.
"When I finished playing, I was badly let down by Doncaster. I had started my career there and wanted to stay in football. They said there would always be a job for me but, when the time came, there was nothing. I was so disillusioned that I left football and, after a year out, I ran a pub. Then I became a lorry driver. It suits me: I never do long distances and I'm home every night."

Not much on Stan Brooks other than him playing in local football ( for Balby Plough ? ) in the 1990's.

Have 2 Littles....George who went to work at International Harvesters where he was still playing into his 40's
and Alan who after his managerial career , now lives in retirement in Spain

Reading the local paper tonight, I saw a picture of Steve Foster who it appears is now coaching at Whitley Bay in the Northern League.

Spotted a van on our street a few weeks ago advertising the services of, Steve Raffell, Painter and Decorator. Never actually saw Steve but given that he's from just up the road in Blyth( as was his van) certain it's one and the same.

Edit Steve not Mark!

Whitehurst used to run the Butchers Arms in Thurnscoe. He was prosecuted for some fraud if memory serves.

Kevin Noteman moved around a bit after Rovers , playing for Valetta ( Malta) and a number of local non-league sides ending up at Retford Utd .

His elder brother , Wayne ,  who only had 2 cup games for Rovers , moved into Housing  and has served on various housing boards and regeneration projects in Bradford  .

How Billy escaped nick , I'll never know !! reputed to be the hardest man in football . On leaving football he has trained greyhounds, ran several pubs , worked in the building trade and in the stores at BP Saltend and Drax power station . In 2008 he was found guilty of benefit fraud and given a suspended sentence

Here's an idea - combining this and the thread about past shirts. If the club did run a vintage shirt day once a season, then players from that season could be invited along too. Obviously gonna have problems with the Tam O'Shanter game - some seasons it's simply a celebration of the players from that era and other seasons the survivors can do the lap of hobble, I mean honour.

For those who missed that one vintage shirt a season game idea - the team actually play one game in that years chosen vintage shirt, and it goes on sale in the club shop.

Cracking idea, I would love to meet all the ex players from bygone years. Would be interesting to ask what they have been doing etc.

Interesting reading. Chris Beech played for Hucknall Town after leaving Carlisle but after that the trail goes cold. Jamie Paterson was coaching in Australia- not sure if he still is. Tris Whitman signed for Bedworth United earlier in the season (where he played alongside Sgt Brighty) but he's now left there- may be at Rainworth MW. And Simon Marples DID score for us- though only in the Qualifying Round of the FA Cup (in a 2-2 home draw against Southport).

Where are they now?

I've just looked at the league table. My knackers have re-located to somewhere just south of my tonsils.
